According to Dark Horizons, another Starship Troopers is on the way. The film will have even more of a connection to the first film though, with some cast members from the original film returning to the fold for “Troopers 3”.

Casper Van Dien mentioned via his official site that he is involved, reprising his role as Johnny Rico.

Says the actor, “The script is along the same line as the first. It is Awesome”. He adds that Rico would now be a General in the film.

No, no, no, no, NO! They can't! The first one was pretty awesome I must say, but they completely ruined with the second one! Thought the third one, like Nixson said, might have some returning characters from the first, I don't think they'll pull it off.

Just...just stop it.

I definitely say DO IT, DO IT. I loved the first one. The second one was disapointing but it was different and no one really likes change. If you look at the second one as its own movie and not a sequel then it's pretty good and entertaining to a point.

I really, really hope they make it. If its anything like the first it's bound to be good. Better acting though please Casper. The only other movie I've seen him do that's worth mentioning is Sleepy Hollow and he was okay in that. Come On Starship Troopers 3!! :)

Oh, Lord...

Me thinks I smell a made-for-Sci-Fi crapfest in the making here...

Casper hasn't been a good actor since he started though I enjoyed Starship Troopers and have had some fun with the new game Casper needs this film because he's got nothing going for him.

Starship Troopers wasn't made for dialogue so if they stick with good action it might be really fun, I remember the second one vaguely.

The first one was awesome and this one has huge potential. Hopefully it gets a decent director, a respectable script and a theatrical release. Too bad Paul Verhoeven doesn’t do sequels, although he was involved with Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles, which was sort of a sequel/ remake.

I am not an entirely big fan of this Franchise however, the first one I thought was a little OTT, but had some superb FX. I won't be holding my breath for the next one though. LOL!!

I actually liked (& own) Starship Troopers.

The second one was meh.

But a third?  Enough already with the direct to video movies!

Then again...Caspers gotta eat I guess.

Update:

Variety confirms today that reports that a second straight-to-DVD sequel to 1997’s “Starship Troopers” is in the works are most certainly more than just, well, rumours.

“Starship Troopers 3” will be written and directed by Ed Neumeier -- who wrote the first two installments, not to mention sci-fi cult classic "RoboCop" – and reunite some of the cast from the original film, including Casper Van Dien, who’ll be back to reprise his role as gun-toting Johnny Rico – now a general, whose recruited back into duty to squash some more bugs.

“The script is along the same line as the first,” Van Dien says on his website. “It is awesome”.

Sony Screen Gem’s Clint Culpepper had this shocking comment to make: “They realize there's money to be made there."-moviehole.net

First trailer here.- http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2397110553/

Apparently the CGI isn't finished yet. I hope that's true because it doesn't look that great in the trailer. The film looks like it will be more like the original, which should please many fans.

Am I the only one who liked the sequel? Sure it was a lot different than the first, but I actually appreciated that the filmmakers wanted to change things up.

I liked the series more than the films. You are not alone in enjoying the second one.
