SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Questions or Comments  /  Dual Membership

Is it not against the rules to have two different membership acconts on this site? I mean, I couldn't go under this name and under a completely different name whenever I felt like it, could I? I think this has happened a few times on the site and I always thought it wasn't allowed.

If you can do it without getting caught, that's fine.  However, when it becomes obvious that one person is maintaining two accounts not only will one account be deleted, but the other members of the board will shun you for quite a while for cocking around.

My only question is what legitimate reason would having two accounts serve? I know why people usually do it, and they usually get caught because a lot of people here are too sharp for them, but I assume you would ask for a legitimate reason as opposed to the usually trickery...

That seems to clear things up for me, thanks guys. I was just wondering because I know I have definately came across this recently. Don't want to mention any names, the people aren't really doing any harm. But at the same time, they are breaking the rules.

It is not against the rules to have two accounts.  Also, it is not against the rules to stop or close one account and open a new account.  Many people have done that.  The only thing that is against the rules is creating two user accounts and have them argue or debate each other.

I don't know if it's against the rules to use multiple accounts to praise your own work, and to keep bumping it up on top of the list, but you should try to avoid that at all costs.  People have done it in the past and they're found out.  It's not pretty.

I think people who delete an account to start a new one because they burn bridges is also a form of trickery and should be avoided. If you are forced to do that I'd say just leave because when people find out who you are down the line it's just going to get worse.

If these sock-puppets post in almost any thread now bert can see IP addresses unless that feature is gone for Mods which means he can expose you. (Keep an eye on script threads because that's where they need to be stopped.)

Ohh.....I see that now.  Never noticed it before, really.  How cool.

Yes, I'll be looking....

[EDIT:  There were always a few I suspected -- now I go back and find out they were!  Yeah...you guys better watch out.]

I think that's against the sanity rules as well.  That's just creepy.

The ones that bother me don't have debates with themselves, Guy.

What they do is set up another account so they can write glowing, gushing, and congratulatory reviews -- of their own scripts.

And some of these are just shameless.  I'm going through and deleting a few of them now.

Where is this fascinating IP vision?

Bottom left of each post.  It's about 10 digits -- give or take -- separated by periods.

Pia gave me a cool website where I can trace these, too.

You can only see them on the board, which you're mod for. For example, I can only see member's IP addresses on the Movie/ Television Rumor board. Bert can only see them on all of his thirteen boards.

Ditto for me. I can see everyone's IP on the Screenwriting Class board. Most people visit most of the boards on these sites, but generally the soc puppets will only visit the script boards for reviews. They generally serve no other purpose, so Bert will probably be the only mod to pick these out. I know Don can see these everywhere, but don't know the extent of Wesley's vision on this matter.

I can only see IP's on 1 board myself even with my colour.

That's fine though because you can tell in reviews if that person is the same person (They might accidently say something or make a common mistake they usually make)

If you have two accounts and use one to argue you should be banned forever no question asked.

This new guy who wrote an SS Script about Mike, Ghostwriter and myself is almost for sure someone who has been here for awhile because a new guy wouldn't know what they were let alone spend the time writing one.

Talk to Don, this board could use a mod.

But there are also tons of programs and sites, which hide or alter your IP address. Oh and could I get the url for that site Pia showed you?

Has someone wrote a script with our names in it? Or have I read that wrong? LOL!

You didn't get that PM? Mike told me about it and moments later the guy sent it to me.

Is this a bad script, dissing the members? I find it rather sad, someone sitting taking the time to write something like this.

I haven't recieved the PM, Wes. What's it all about?

It was just some random, thrown together script sent through a pm.

My version had me as this all powerful guy in a tower or some nonsense.  Apparently, I'm a cocky individual, although I didn't point out the grammar/typos and excessive use of "we see's", so I can't be all bad, right?

I don't know if Wes' version was different or not.

My name must have been mentioned somewhere if Wesley says so. What is this?! LOL!
Posted by: Shelton, June 13th, 2006, 10:58am; Reply: 24
Yeah, you were in it too.  You and Wes were karate fighters or something.
Posted by: Acroname, June 13th, 2006, 11:00am; Reply: 25
Karate fighters? LMAO! Why would someone write something like this and then PM it? It's weird LOL!
Posted by: Combichrist, June 13th, 2006, 2:04pm; Reply: 26
Well who was this member? If you have his screen name report him to Don. If it was me that was in that script I know I would have.

I think the original question has been addressed and this thread has pretty much run its course.

For those who have no idea what Shelton is talking about, check out the script "SimplyNoir" -- or a few others like it -- which George has conveniently collcted:

Here

The two or three people keeping this thread alive can exchange PMs for any remaining questions.
