And it's not fast food or mowing lawns. I work at the office of a local TV station. I'll be making the schedules of the programming, do some Excel work, answer phones, etc. Office work. I get $6 an hour which is better than what most 16-year-olds get. I start tomorrow, wish me luck!

Good luck! I'm glad you got a job! Sounds like a lot of fun! I went as an intern to a local TV station for about a week last year and thought it was great. The TV station I was with, though, kinda stunk. lol

Anyway, great job on getting the job! ;)

Awesome dude!  (...do you prefer dudette?  Most people don't...)

That's a lot better than my first steady job as a Wal-mart Associate...perhaps you can manage to fool someone into letting you help with sound or something.  "Excuse me sir, would you like me to hold the boom while you're in the washroom?"  That kinda thing.

Hehe. Yeah, if this job hadn't come along I'd probably be applying at Wal-Mart. But I'd prefer Wal-Mart over some other places around here. Wal-Mart probably employs 30% of my high school's upperclassmen population.

My boss (I have a boss!) told me that once football season starts, I may be able to tape their games with their cameras. And maybe edit comercials using tape-to-tape (not a lot of digital equipment there).

Thanks!

Congratulations!

Go above and beyond your work duties,
come earlier than you have to and leave later than you have to.
If you don't feel good one day, take a tylenol and show up anyway and fake it.

In my experience that's how you move up.

(or marry the boss, the fastest way to promotion and a big office)

Good luck!

Would you be mad if I said my first job paid me 13 bucks an hour?

Good luck.

Furious.

Thanks for the words of wisdom, Pia. There's a lot of production duties I want to get a chance at doing. Like working the Beta and 3 3/4'' editing flatbeds, using their cameras and shooting a show in their studio so I'm trying to make a good impression. I'll keep your advice in mind.

And thanks everybody! My first day was great (didn't last long though, I got done with my list of things to-do early)

Yeah, I'm getting ten bucks an hour.  I thought minimum wage was like...$6.15 or something...I could be wrong though.  Anyway, I'm counseloring (is that a word) at a summer camp, it's nice.  Your job sounds like it could turn out really well.

I was wrong, it's $5.15.  I think my favorite job of someone I know is my cousin kyle who is payed to play with hermit crabs in a shop that sells hermit crabs called "crabby world"

ha.

My first job was the US Army Band. It started at $863/month and moved up to $1115 once I got out of AIT. At 40 hours/week, that would work out to about $7/hour, but we rarely worked that many hours.

Where I am now is nearly $16/hour, but then again, I'm 31, so for my age group, that income sucks.

My boss kind of scared me yesterday when she pulled out her checkbook after only 2 days. I thought she was paying me off and firing me. But I guess she pays me every Friday. I got 58 bucks... not bad for only 2 days. I opened a savings account per my mother's request and it wasn't even 30 minutes after I got my check cashed that my parents pointed out that my car needed an oil change and a new battery. Luckily, however, my mom gave me a full tank of gas and paid for my $30 oil change because it was my first paycheck. The battery is my own to take care of.

But so far the job is pretty good. Next week my mission is to clean up the office a little bit. Great, cleaning. My range of duties is getting broader with every shift.

Well done, nice work as they say if you can get it. My ideal job would be somewhere like that, going through the archives. Who knows, my luck may change. I am not knocking where I work voluntarily with the RST mind you. Just a few of us, to be honest, I don't like vast crowds. Hardly call me gregarious by any wildest imagination.  I am not saying I am a recluse mind you  - just a cosy few.  Fussy devil aren't I?
