SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Questions or Comments  /  Missing Authors

I'm tired to read scripts (sometimes good anyway) and write down feedbacks and reviews to people who never answer to them or neither visit the site again. Something should be done about it.

Don't worry, Michel when it happens, Phil takes care of them!

Keep reading,  because it is good for you skill and joy.

I've read one of yours where you did not bother even saying thanks.

That's why I don't read anymore of yours.

Well, why do you read the scripts of authors who you know aren't going to respond and/or see them?

That's why I always write the first post in my reviews.  Just to let err body that's new that I'm around.  No one is going to read your script if it's just Don's post in there.  Unless you are one of the famous people. here like George or bert or Dogglebe.

I'll be that famous one day.....

And I only read scripts when either someone asks me personally or if the thread has quite a few responses from the author themselves.

Then again it doesn't hurt just to read a screenplay to read it.  Who cares if the writer isn't here.  It might be a good story just to read and learn from.

I usually don't read any from people I know don't post at least sometimes or check on their screenplays. I give new members a little more leeway and take a chance to see if they respond or come around to responding, and members I see that are reviewing other stuff. But not for the older screenplays that haven't been touched and I never see the writer participate in the boards.

Otherwise i just read what sounds interesting to me. If you don't want a read/review to be "wasted" then just try to discriminate a little bit and read from authors that are more reliable.

I think "The Cabin" has to hold the record for most reads by an author that is no longer around.  However I think he did write the recently posted In Da Club short.  That seems like his "style".  I don't know why but I just have a hunch it's him.  Maybe he changed his name from Andrew to Michael?

How dare he, Pia?!  I know you print out the scripts you read too, so that's a lot of wasted ink if the person doesn't respond to your critique.

How rude....

Unfortunately, not all the names always have new material up all the time.  And sometimes, you have to give someone the benefit of the doubt.  If a synopsis looks good, I'll give it a shot.

I'm famous?

You know, there's already been like 500 threads that are exactly the same as this, so I think it's the reader's responsibility to know who they're reading and and whether they know that their review is going to good use or not.  After all these months of debate, I think we can all land on that conclusion.

myself I don't care to who it belongs,

I have my favorite writers, but I try to read the most shorts, specially the ones with not a lot of replies.

Oh, and if I ever forgot to thank someone, I then deeply apologize!

:-)

This is an old discussion and nothing can be done about it. If Don even bothers to respond to this thread he will probably just say (Once again like he says every time this comes up) he accepts ANY screenplays because if he was picky, we wouldn't be here.

I suggested once that when you send a screenplay in, you put your username on it (And if you look, it's on the submit form) but you guys and girls don't use it so blame yourself.

I would also go further and take all non member scripts off the message board (leave them on the main page) but this board is here for US the members and not every tom, dick and harry who doesn't give a shit.

Wow, I thought that only members could post. I guess that I have a lot to learn about this awesome place. :P

Some were members for a few days but I'd say the majority of every script is a non-member or someone who shows up a year later saying, "I have been here, just never signed up." frankly that is no excuse.

That person can still read and send e-mail... but that would be too much work.

The purpose of this site is to write and get feedback on but it has become almost a business of trading, selling and buying bullshit.

As opposed to continuing this thread indefinitely, I would point you to an existing discussion......

To kind of answer where this thread was going, once upon a time, the discussion board did not have as much spotlight as it does now. Don moved the board link to the top of the main simplyscripts.com page where it was down on one side. I posted my first script in April 2004, but I wasn't a board member until that November. It takes time for people to notice. As for the rest of the discussion, yeah, relegate it to Bert's link.

I'd be bere.  The name 'dogglebe' stands for quality.

It's funny because, every now and then, we get someone here who complains about the 'inner circle' of writers and readers.  These are usually those people who expect everyone to critique their work, yet never read anyone else's.

Anyone remember that one guy from England who refused to read anyone's work?
