What is your favorite soundtrack main title?

Soundtrack main title? I like the Forrest Gump soundtrack but i dont think thats the question, is it?

There should be only one title you like throughout a soundtrack. Not necessarily the whole soundtrack.

Am I clear enough?

Aw, c'mon. It has to be "Misirlou" in Pulp Fiction. It's too perfect and one of the most famous opening title tracks ever. I even actually liked what the Black Eyed Peas did with it.

As for soundtrack in a film, Garden State's soundtrack is amazing... as is Kill Bills. I own them both on CD.

Friday Night Lights - Explosions in the Sky is a band to watch.  They capture Texas high school Football like no other film score.  Amazing.  Look out for them.

Fast and the Furious - What can I say I like techno and hip hop.

Mortal Kombat Theme Song  - Nothing more needs to be said.

Domino's opening credit theme sequence was pretty awesome.  

Girlfight's theme song was pretty cool.  As was Havoc's.  


I'm a sucker for opening sequences.  I like when filmmakers actually have a credit sequence at the beginning.  That seems to be forgotten nowadays.  Usually all that is shown today is the production studio, A (insert director's name here) film, and the title.  I kind of hate that too, because director's are that big headed as to call a whole film their own, considering hundreds upon hundreds of people are required to make a film, let alone the writer who actually came up with the STORY.  If it's anyone's film it should be the producers.  They are the ones that go up on Oscar Night.  Not the director.    

But usually the music that accompanies a credit sequence is awesome.  I love how music and the credits always match up with the background.  

And for video games, nothing beats Final Fantasy or Metal Gear Solid.  Both awesome soundtracks that can stand alone by themselves.  God of War surprised me as well.  Very good "Gladiator-esque" Roman score.  

I think the Psycho score is amazing, especially the opening theme.

...that's all I could really think of right now.

I can choose a single track from the forrest gump soundtrack, its all so good. Rebel Rouser, Fortunate Son, All Along the Watchtower etc.

And also there this Brit cop show called Heartbeat that has a pretty awesome soundtrack.

Goodfellas. Unfortunately the soundtrack on the CD is not the same as the movie. The CD just has all the classical tunes, but none of the pop or rock songs that were in the movie. Pulp Fiction had a pretty good soundtrack too.

The soundtrack for Alien3 is probably my favourite. Elliot Goldenthal created some really disturbing tracks for that movie. Great IMO.

For entire soundtrack (and not one or two pieces) I would say the soundtrack from either:

Forrest Gump

The Big Chill

Grease 2

The Commitments

And I'm kidding about Grease 2.

Mine would be:

Apocalypse Now: The use of "The End" by The Doors is appropriate. This is my favourite example of a song used in a movie. They've got some other great tracks in there as well, like "Satisfaction" and "Ride of the Valkeries". Plus that really trippy score that Coppola and his father wrote struck the perfect chord, created the perfect mood for the film.

The Exorcist: The use of Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" was incredible. Is there a more fitting piece of music?

The Silence of the Lambs: Howard Shore's score is just incredible. Never playing the scares, always playing the emotions. It's a wonderful soundtrack.

Aliens: One of the best scores ever written for a film. Good old James Horner. The music in the climax is so thrilling and so pulse-pounding you just wanna rip your hair it. It's fantastic. He and Cameron would do Titanic together, another brilliant soundtrack and they're doing Avatar was well.

And finally

Jaws: I had to say it, the score is so great. The main theme (like so many of John Williams' other works) will go down in history as one of the most memorable of any movie. Plus there's that great drinking song. I have only a few major things I want to accomplish in my life time before I die, and singing that song while I'm blind drunk is one of them. Of course, anytime I'm blind drunk I've forgotten all about wanting to sing it while drunk, so I always have to wait till next time, where I forget all over again. But one day.... one day....

There are so many others as well. I wanna mention Boogie Nights for using my favourite song of all time ("It's A Living Thing by ELO). 2001, Dr. Strangelove, Schindler's List and Edward Scissorhands all had great soundtracks as well. Wow. I've said way too much in this post.

Jerry Goldsmith's theme for "Alien"

That score still scares the sh!t out of me.

The Nekromantik soundtrack. The score is hauntingly beautiful yet gripping and unnerving. It's so good, it makes the images onscreen even more disturbing than they already are and considering what the story's about, that's saying a lot.

'You're so cool' by Hans Zimmer that opens True Romance.

Hans Zimmer's track is a re-working of the theme to Badlands by Carl Orff but I much prefer Zimmer's version, it is a wonderful opening to a movie as I have ever seen (apart from maybe  Magnolia).


And speaking of Magnolia what about Aimee Mann's 'Save me' as sung by the characters during the movie - how cool is that?

Okay, this is gonna be strange. This piece is from an almost unanimously-hated film (I seem to be the only person who likes it).

I'm talking about -- wait for it -- Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. Just check it out. You can't tell me it's not fucking epic:

It almost sounds like The Thing's main theme. By far, the best score music in the entire franchise next to Carpenter's main theme. Sadly, this music only played in the unreleased P-Cut version of the film.

I thought Alan Howarth deserved at least SOME recognition for his work! He did a good job and it's a shame his score went to waste.

Another one of my favourite soundtracks is Lalo Schifrin's score from Dirty Harry.
Both the soundtrack and the cinematography took what could have been a fairly standard cop movie to the next level.

Clint Mansell, John Murphy are great and Alan Silvestri did a lot of work being mentioned here.

'There Will Be Blood' had a terrific score.

Let's be fair, there are so many great examples.

It's rare to see a great movie without a great musical accompaniment, however sparse it may be.

Music really does bring a movie soul.

I'm gonna say Bruce Springsteen's 'The Wrestler' from the film of the same name.  Admittedly it plays over the credits, but it's an amazing song.

Contrary to popular opinion, I really liked the scene at the end of 'In The Valley Of Elah' in which (SPOILERS) a song plays as Tommy Lee Jones raises a tattered American flag upside down outside a town building.  I thought the whole scene was very powerful and the music augmented it beautifully.

I concur. However, on my way to Long Term Parking before Denmark I am playing Neil Young's soundtrack for Jamurch's and Depp's Dead Man.

Yup, Cave is a gent of the highest order; musician, novelist, screenwriter & occasional actor. It must be noted too that Bad Seeds co-member Warren Ellis collaborated with him for the soundtracks to The Proposition, Jesse James & The Road.

I haven't read his two novels, they're on the list though. I've heard great things about Munroe.

I've not seen Dead Man in many a moonshine, must rectify that but I know Neil Young rarely steers me wrong.

I listened to this hundreds of times while writing the third act of Red Sun.
