Hey guy I'm very curious about what the old members think about how  the new members should act and interact in SimplyScript Discussion Board thread? .

They shouldn't act any differently than we old timers....maybe they should act a little more mature.

You know for a sec Helio, I thought you were asking me personally.  Haha.

I'd say read, review, write, and respect.  The main thing I can't stand is people that bitch about their scripts not being read.  That is almost like an immediate ignore catalyst.  The old members here seem to have a grasp on the whole vibe of thise message board, but newly verterans like myself, Pia, etc. are giving some new perspectives.  This place should be fun and resourceful.  I know I try to keep this site on both of those wavelengths.  Writing is a great thing.  I try and share that with err body else here.

I think the only real difference in some is an understandable trepidation to let your true opinions about a script known, especially if it was written by an older member. If you read one of mine, I would want brutal honesty. If it sucks, I sure do want to know...the catch is that I would want to know why.

My hope is that we all treat each other roughly the same way. The difference shouldn't be noticable.

There should be contribution to ALL sections of the forum, to integrate fully into the SimplyScripts Realm.

Read, write and get to know one another!! Simple!

Hey Phil, what I realy want to hear with this thread I heard from Jackson and George (as an example) and isn't too much to know about these items. Even so to the old members these aspects is usefull. I wouln't direspect the new memebers with this, lot of members here were new time ago, weren't they?

So, let me ask the new members now: what the new members think about how  the old members should act and interact in SimplyScript Discussion Board thread? Ah-ha!

JIT, hey Andy do you want to kill Pia with this pic, won't you?

Hey Andy, nice signature. Guess what movie we just ran last week? That’s right - Goonies -- ha! I thought of you as soon as I saw it on the schedule. I only wish others had known who you are so they could have appreciated it.

Anyway, sorry. I don’t have much to add to the thread. The only thing I could say is that it’s nice to have a place where people who love writing can interact. For serious writers, it’s a place to receive feedback that will speed the process of improvement up considerably. And it’s also a place to enjoy the company of peers. For the people who are not so serious, it’s still a valuable resource and there’s still a great deal to learn from even the hobby writers.

The only problem I’ve ever really had is from the writers who don’t respect the craft and think any old thing they threw together on a bored whim is worthy of clogging up the forums. Or the ones who are so arrogant that they’re absolutely certain everything they write is a misunderstood masterpiece that everyone else just doesn’t get. Everyone is just supposed to toss praise and flattery upon them for being so wonderful. Such people seldom improve and don’t seem to care to. And the behavior exists regardless of length of time as a member, though thankfully they usually tend to move on after a while without the proper amount of attention to satisfy their egos.

By the way, did I mention that I like Andy’s signature? (The one with all the shirtless guys because I know she’ll change it one day and I don’t want people to think I’m gaga over some future sig that might feature something bizarre. :))

Us new members have big, big boots to fill. I think i have most of required competences covered. I haven't reviewed much feature length scripts but i do my part in the shorts. And when it really comes down to it, isn't that all that matters?

...And I push forth my opinion into the other forums.

Old members should actively have a voice in forums because they have the most experience... Unless theres Scorsese, Lucas or Coppola amongst the ranks of the new members (You never know).

Well, I hope theres something in between New and Old because I'm pretty sure I'm not new anymore... I've been here for around 6 months now so hopefully I've gotten out of the 'new member' title.

As for the older members, they do their jobs (mods) as good as I'd hope them to be and they answer even the smallest of questions newer members might ask even though they've probably heard them a thousand times before. The older members know each other quite well and you can see that when they interact with one another on these boards, which I think is something for the newer members to look up to. It's a community here, you give and you recieve, you make new friends. New members shouldn't lock themselves away from everyone else, get stuck into other boards and this will become a better place with more personalities and colour coming into everything.

The idea here is that this is a community of writers, and in a community setting, everyone has a voice. In the same respect, that voice should be relevant to the community. Therefore, if you like video games, that's swell, but unless you're discussing the plot of said video game in reference to an adaptation of some sort, it's not a relevant discussion...unless you're Helio, and then somehow EVERYTHING'S a relevant discussion. You have no idea what he gets away with.

A lot of questions have been asked a hundred times which is why you'll occasionally find links on the last post of a locked thread directing you to where it was asked before, or if there's a lot of discussion on it, we probably merged the thread with the older one, so there are lots of opinions on whatever the question is. An example of a perennial question is Flashbacks...that particular thread (merged multiple times) has about 5 or 6 pages worth of comments.

It's just a good idea to check through some older posts to see what's been asked before and you might even find your answer a hundred times over in an older post. Of course, most of us will answer it again without batting an eye...and a couple of us will just complain that it's been asked before and to look for it yourself...you know who you are.

I guess my main thing is that I wish people would proofread their posts -- for spelling -- for at least rudimentary grammar -- and to ensure that the posts even makes sense at all.

I don't mean small mistakes that are easily overlooked.

I mean 15 glaring errors in a two sentence post that makes the author look retarded.

It drives me nuts when new members -- and it seems as if some older members will never stop -- clutter the boards with an avalanche of posts where each one contains some new affront to the English language.

I am not talking about you foreign guys, either.  I am talking to people who should know better.

This is allegedly a board of writers.  It is not asking a lot for you to take a few moments to ensure that your posts reflect that.

I like when a new member reads a feature lenght script (all of it) and posts a well thought review of it.

I also like when an old member does that.

Hey Robert Newcomer, the better thing to do in order to avoid this problem is to put warn in bold letter in the home: Just for those know correct English!

Don't get me wrong, Helio -- I enjoy the international flavor that some of you guys bring to the boards.  I think it adds much more than it subtracts.

I am talking about the lazy people -- those that do not even try -- a club to which you obviously do not belong.

Just to clarify, Helio is in the "English isn't my native language and I can still put together a more coherent post than half you native English speakers" club.
