I just, a few days ago, got a Queen box set consisting of their first eight CD's. I want to amend any prevous "best of" comments I might have made.

Queen is great, very versatile -- Beatle-like at times.

They are definately one of the best rock bands ever!

I take it that you picked up the Queen Jewels box set? The first 8 albums, Queen - The Game? It's a fantastic box set as all the albums are digitally remastered, but don't have the crappy bonus remixes that Hollywood Records released when they bought the catalogue in 1991/1992.

The box set definately covers Queen's greatest era. Though in the 80's/90's, Queen did produce some stellar stuff, but they were definitely in the creatvie hey-day during the 70's - especially the late 70's.

Have you listened to any of their live stuff? Queen Live Killers is a fantastic account of what they sounded like during their 1978-1979 tour. Queen Live At the Bowl consists of some songs that are not on Live Killers, so it compliments LK very well.

If you like their 80's stuff - then Live at Wembley is a great CD/DVD to have.

I think at last count, I have about 150 Queen CDs, 200 records and lots of memorabilia. Sigh, I'm such a loser...haha.

It's called "The Crown Jewels," from PBS -- first eight albums in a blue velvet box.

Yeah, Sheer Heart Attack is definitely one of their best and starts a succession of great albums (Night At The Opera, Day At The Races, News Of The World).

I'm happy that you are enjoying their work. Queen recently became the #1 selling artist in the UK for album sales (Queen's Greatest Hits, 1981) and have recently surpassed The Beatles and Elvis Presley for total amount time spent on the UK charts.

If you are digging their music and plan to expand, I'd suggest getting 'Queen Live Killers' next as it will give you an insight at what they are like live. They have always been considered a fantastic live group and it's great to listen to live versions and how they changed their arrangements (plus the 12 minute version of Brighton Rock!).

I've seen them 3 times. Joe Russo (Freddie) is the equivalent of Mercury circa News of the World - he's THAT good...

The only drawback is that the guitarist really can't create May's signature sound, since Brian has his guitars specially made, so the riffs can sound a bit thin. Otherwise, these guys are better than the current version touring with Paul Rodgers.

And this comes from the biggest Queen fan around (no, not you Rendy)...

Great song and great live version. I have the VHS of that concert - "We Will Rock You" I believe it's called?

And beautiful harmony during the riff between May's guitar and Freddie's piano - definitely elevates this version quite a ways above the studio track...

Aye, I believe that this is from that gig. They put the wrong tour down on the youtube vid.

Brilliant gig that. Possibly one of their best ever.

Mind you, I was at their last show at Knebworth 9th August 1986. So I know what a proper gig looks like. You kids have got nothing these days compared. Nothing!

So they should've!!!  The lads were only together for 8 years.

Queen are pretty cool. I like a few of their songs. I remember when ANATO and ADATR came out in the 70's - they were big.

I've always loved Queen. And now, this song seems to be playing at the end of "Thief". (This is before I happened again upon this thread). Strange. I don't know if you've been following it, but tonight was a revelation:
