SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  Newbie...and Hello to you all!

Brand spankin' new and just wanted to say, "HELLOOOOOOOOOO future friends." ;)

I am not a writer. I am not a screenplay writer. However, I do want to try. I got inspired to start writing very recently and I wrote a few short stories. Then, I stumbled upon a screenplay and was like "Whoa, that looks like an interesting writing format" and so,  here I am. I have been brushing up on format and technique but I'm very, very green still.

I have reviewed one script thus far. I have written zero scripts thus far, but I do have a couple of ideas and I may get inspired tomorrow when I continue reading the scripts here.

My favorite genre is horror. That is probably what I will focus on (review-wise) and that is also probably what I intend on writing.

Blah......let's see, besides that, I'm female and 23 years old. Don't feel like giving away much more information about myself right now but I will post more later! \\

Very cool. Welcome to the boards. You'll definitely learn a lot from this place and reading others is just the way to do it.

Jamie :)

Thank you, Jaimie.  I'm about to log off, but I will be back tomorrow. If you have anything in the horror genre that you've written, I'd love to read it. I just graduated from college (December 06) and passed my teaching certification exam (just found out a few days ago). I'll be taking this semester off and the summer too. Then, hopefully I'll start teaching in August. :-)

For now, I have the upcoming months all to myself which is very rare! I will be working, but I’m used to working and going to school, and then working some more! This is the first time in a LONG time that I only have to work. This means I will have a lot of spare time and I hope to dedicate that time to reading and writing.

The thing with me is that I’m a pretty crappy writer. I’ll be the first to admit it. But, every now and then, I will get inspired by something and the words will just come out and flow really well. However, this inspiration thing doesn’t happen quite often. I usually have to read a book, watch a movie, or have some kind of “life experience” and then it hits. Then I better take advantage of it fast! Lol.

Anyhow, I will be starting a “practice script” which will be my FIRST attempt to write a script EVER soon.  I’ll definitely post it here when I begin... :-)

I haven't wrote anything myself in the horror genre but I will be contributing to it very soon. So I'll be joining you in reading a lot of horror scripts here (in which I haven't read many) and I at least know which ones you could maybe start with. One of, if not, the most popular script on here (which I have yet to read myself) is "The Farm" by Robert Newcomer (or Bert, as he's well known on here). It is highly recommended by most members here. And, of course, there are plenty of others you can learn from too.

Well, you'll definitely get some reads, and with it, some great constructive comments.  :)

Welcome to the place where we come to play with our toys.  There's this one week writing thing coming up next week where all of the cool people try to write a short on a given theme and subject within 7 days, that may be something you should consider!

So, welcome  :D

It's always good to have more female writers. They don't seem to argue and cause as many problems as the male ones.

Welcome and remember, the RULES are your best friend, learn them and follow them to the best of your ability.

Screenwriting Class and http://www.simplyscripts.com/WR_glossary.html will help you a lot on your journey. Good luck.

PARKESTER

I read somewhere that the best thread to start with was the “Recommended Scripts” thread. I’ll probably start with that only because I don’t want to pick up any bad formatting habits or techniques from others who are perhaps less trained in this area.

Once I feel I have the hang of the whole thing, I’ll definitely delve into other scripts based solely on whether the reading sounds interesting or not. ;)

I’m alright with the grammar; however, everyone can make mistakes every now and then.  By the way, I don’t think all teachers can write well! I wish they could, but I’ve encountered some that cannot. I’m pretty good at writing straightforward essays and research papers. I haven’t had much practice in the creative area. What I meant by "crappy writer" was that I am the type of person that doesn’t like to revise! Gasp! But I’m learning and I’m forcing myself to go back and revise.  That will probably improve my writing quite a bit...

Don’t know if I should be scared or happy about that!

Will consider if I have the time for it. Thanks for the heads up!

I am not really the type of person who argues. Well, let me rephrase that a bit. I can definitely stick up for myself and if I feel passionate about something I will let my voice be heard, but for the most part, I’m not one to partake in silly arguments.

By the way, thanks for the link. I need all the help I can get.
