I watch a lot of shows but there are some shows that have some of the greatest songs, I just wait for the opening theme after the teaser. Here are some of mine:

Birds of Prey's "I'd Start a Revolution (If I Could Get Up in the Morning)" by Aimee Allen. I don't think it's been released on CD but it's been on several movies and TV shows. A really great song.

W.G. Walden's theme to The West Wing.

Smallville's theme "Save Me" by Remy Zero

Veronica Mars's theme song "We Used to Be Friends" by the Dandy Warhols

Buffy the Vampire Slayer's theme, Angel's theme by Darling Violetta... so many, I'll think of some more later.

That's easy. The Simpsons. Danny Elfman is a genius composer when paired with Steve Bartek's orchestrations.

The Simpsons theme is definitely the most memorable. The best though, without a doubt is THE CHEERS THEME... "Sometimes you wanna go, where everybody knows your name..."

That song Save Me annoys the hell outta me, kinda like that stupid show.

Some of my favourites:

"Woke Up This Morning" by Alabama 5. The theme to The Sopranos.

"The Office" theme song by Jay Furguson

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" theme by Nerf Herder

"Futurama" theme by Christopher Tynge (?)

I also enjoy the theme from "Deadwood" as well as the theme songs to The Simpsons and Family Guy. And the House theme song from season one. They've kept changing the song every season, but the first one was the best. And the Alias theme, before the remixed it for season four. I watch far too much television and pay far too much attention to their theme songs.

Cheers, Chismeister.

Psyche Rock by Pierre Henri is the original. FACT! It's pretty good but Futurama sure gave it a remastering.

And the South Park one.

Drew Carey Show - All of them.

Scrubs.

If we're talking worst, Will and Grace and Family Guy take it. Good shows but those themes get on my nerves.

Cheers still dominates.

The Twilight Zone.  Ages old and people still recognize it.

There's one for sure. That tune is a lot longer than most people realize it is, but the whole version is just awesome. Another one that works well for me is Tales From The Crypt, but I think I'm partial to Danny Elfman.

The X-Files. Everytime I watch an episode and the theme tune begins to play, it just happens without me even realising it, but I just whistle the tune. I bet most people do, you just can't help it.

And the Friends tune too...

Noooooo!!!!!  :) I knew the friends theme was bound to come up sooner or later. The theme's almost as annoying as the show is.

What?!? The greatest sitcom ever made? No way dude, no way.  :D Seriously though, I've never known someone to ever hate Friends... are you serious?

Yes!  :D sorry to say man, but that's just like the corniest most atrocious show to me ever. Well, maybe ful house and saved by the bell are cornier and more atrocious, but still. But people seem to like it apparently, so whatever. To each his own. I'm just into a little bit raunchier brand of comedy. Ewwww friends, I always shiver and cringe just thinking about it.

Friend was okay to start with, but got real boring, real quick. The Neighbours Theme, "Everybody needs good neighbours..." Classic.

Frasier theme.

The Charmed theme.

CHEERS STILL DOMINATES.

My fav theme is Earl -- it's real short! "...My name is Earl."

Seth

PS ... Thought I only liked 2 shows, but nope, it's three shows.

I think the main problem with Friends is that it stayed on about two seasons longer than it should have. It was just really variable for me. There were some episodes where I pissed myself laughing. I mean my stomach hurt, my face was red and I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. But other episodes I didn't laugh one time. Kinda like The X-Files, which I liked as well. They both stayed on the air for two or three seasons past their used by date.

Frasier theme

Frasier had a lot of different themes. Every few years the composer (Bruce Miller if I'm not mistaken) would come in and deliver a new batch. But the whole jazz kinda thing suits the show really well. I'm not a big jazz fan but when it works it works.

I'm adding "We Used to be Friends" to my list because I had my very first Veronica Mars experience this morning. I saw some episode from seaosn two I think so I didn't really know much about what was going on. But there was a scene with Joss Whedon in it (which was surprising because I didn't know he could act) that was really hilarious. And I also love that song, so I'm adding it.

My favourite is a tie between Woke Up This Morning from The Sopranos and The Office Theme Song. Whenever I hear both of them, I love it because I know that I'm in for something really good, whether or not it be Mafia activity or laughs. When I hear either piece I just know that I'm in for something good.

Cheers, Chismeister.

I forgot about the family guy theme, and the old unsolved mysteries theme I liked a lot too for some reason, if anyone even remembers it.
Posted by: Impulse, January 20th, 2007, 1:26pm; Reply: 16
Oh, man! I can't believe I forgot The X-Files.

Has anyone ever seen the show Weeds? That theme song is the strangest song I've ever heard -- just the voice and the lullaby feel to it. But I think that one's cool too.

Yeah that is a good theme, it's also a good show. I think I like the look of the title sequence more than the actual theme, with everything happening exactly the same and what not. But the song is a perfect mood setter. It was written in the 60's I think.

Cheers, Chismeister.

Hey, I was just thinking about TV themes and, well, do you guys think that if a show, any TV show, has a bad (cheesy, boring, annoying etc) theme tune, it affects the show itself? Or if it has a great theme tune, it helps or makes the show better? I mean, look at Lost and 24, all they have are sound effects playing over the title, and in my opinion, they're brilliant shows. Then there are some annoying ones, I liked Friends spin-off Joey, but the theme tune was revolting. I don't know if the tune made the show seem totally cheesy or what, I'm not sure. But I love singing along to the likes of Scrubs and Malcolm in the Middle, maybe because of my music taste, but it makes me feel happier toward the show itself sometimes too.

What do you guys think?

That's pretty long compared to the opening theme from Murphy Brown.

Couldn't agree more. However, now that we're at Season 18...

I love the scrubs theme song and agree with you on that.  Malcom and the middle too, is good, I love they might be giants.  I dont know who does the scrubs theme song though.

who remembers Lalo Schiffrin's old theme of Mannix in the 60'?  A fine part of jazzy music

How has no one (as far as I know) mentioned WALKER: TEXAS RANGER.

OH. MY. GOD.

Now that was a TV theme. When that music starts you just know he's coming....

CHUCK. NORRIS.

I think the best themes were the John Williams...
Amazing Stories, Lost in Space, Land of the Giants, etc...

But a few of my favs have been Space Above and Beyond, Thunderbirds, The Flash (Danny Elman's best TV theme), and of Course The Jeffersons and Sanford & Son!!!

Lamont!, you big dumm-eh!

The Twin Peaks theme is diffinately up there, as is the X-Files theme. But my favourite would be the theme from Millennium. Such a sad yet foreboding theme.

I find my favorite and most memorable TV theme would have to be the old Hitchcock theme.  Other big ones would have to be X-Files and the theme to Captain Planet (it's soooo bad you have to love it).

It's hard to say the best without being influenced by my favourite TV shows.

Here they are anyways -

Six Feet Under - love, love, love it!

Roseanne - (always used to watch this around dinnertime and it still makes me hungry listening to it!)

Baywatch - I love singing along to it. Especially Borat's "sexy drown-watch" skit!

Friends - I still do the clapping, even to this day...! ;D

Dallas - Come on! This is a classic!

A-Team - Who doesn't try to quote this - "In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team." Cue the music.....

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air - another one I can't help singing along to each and every time....

Last but not least,

The Littlest Hobo - IT RULES. The song makes me want to cry even now, lmao!
