SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Short Sci Fi - January 07 One Week Challenge  /  Guess Who (January 07)
Posted by: James McClung, January 21st, 2007, 6:50pm
These threads pop up everytime the One Week Challenge comes around so I figured I'd make the thread this time. If you don't know what this is about already, simply post your guesses for who you think wrote each entry.

I'm thinking...

Jolly Popped - Higgonaitor
Popcorn 4994 - Helio
Popped - Parkster
The Rainbow Express - Pia
Wasteland - Jordan
What Starts With 'P' and Ends with '-orn'? - Zombie Sean

Also, thanks to whoever decided to move this thread here. I would've done it myself but, of course, non-moderators can't post here. I figured this was the best place for it.

I only have one guess on a certain script, and I'm thinking Wasteland was written by Jordan!

I see a few guesses of me writing something, so I figured I'd rather be a spoiler in this regard than have the person's script blackballed because I'm extremely busy and unable to read anything.

I didn't write "Portal Potty".  I didn't write anything.  My idea was titled "Flash Gorddenbacher: King of the Snack Food Universe", and consisted of Flash trying to stop the evil Mingles Pringles of the planet Manga from overtaking the galaxy and unleashing his dastardly tubes on the world for unsuspecting citizens to get their hands stuck in.

The opening scene was reminiscent of Indiana Jones reaching back through a falling stone door to retrieve his hat, only this time it was Twinkie the Kid, and I'll just say that there was a whole lot of cream filling splattered about.

Anyway, that's as far as I got, but I just wanted to let everyone know not to avoid reading "Portal Potty" because you think it's by me and I'm not contributing.  Plus, I never write heavy action words in all caps like POPS or BANGS.

Carry on.

I decided to read a few this time because the theme gave people some crazy ideas.

Some writers are easy to pick out because they have a unique or very easy to pick up on style.

My guesses based on a couple of factors none of which probably have anything to do with reality.

Popcorn 4994 - Helio
Precious Popcorn - Pia
Jolly Popped - Spencer
Crunch Crunch - Michel
Wasteland - Zombie Sean

Hey Mike -- Why didn't you write it. Your story sounds solid and funny. Go ahead and take a chance and write it anyway for after the OWE. I for one would like to read you script.

Also, to everyones guesses... good luck. And I think lots of people will be quiet surprised at some of the writers of these scripts. Lots of good creative stuff out their. Soon I will be reading more right after I slap my employee involvement teams into action around their careers.

Ditto that.

"Intelligent Design" is not mine.  I didn't play this go round.

But, gosh -- given the guesses here and on the thread for that story -- I really need to give that one a look when I get the chance!

It must be brilliant  ;D

"Crunch Crunch - Helio"

I think Helio wrote all of them.  Everyone else just thinks that they wrote one.  Helio wrote them all.

Haha! Gold!

I was almost positive you'd written Portal Potty. Oh well.

Shame you and Bert didn't participate this time around. I'm going to assume George didn't either as I don't think he's read any of the entries yet.

Anyway, I've adjusted my guesses.

You assume correctly. You're right in that I do read every entry when I've sent one in. Last time I read them all and didn't submit a thing just to mess with people. This time though...

I also sat this one out as I'm swamped with writing some feature lengths for people who aren't teenagers among other things. And somewhere I want to squeeze out another Fempiror. Just too much to consider the wacky theme this time. Maybe next time when I have less going on.

So guess again...

Haha, you're a legend in your own mind, Bert...

The reason people considered "intellgent Design" was your script because there are descriptions of horror in this script very similar to the way you describe stuff. Quite a compliment.

Looks like you have a fan, Bert and his or her script is a little homage to you in a certain gory way... Blood and guts comes to mind, yuky bodily fluids, dismemberment and mincing flesh in a machine... Like I said, quite a homage to the master, Bert the Horror fiend...

But even though this script was not written by your good self, it is pretty good and whover did write it did a good job...

I now think it was Mr. Z but there again, I could be as far away as Argentina with my guess...

Portal Potty - Dom or Chism... Chism denies it, but i know better.
Crunch Crunch - I thought Helio considering the shortness, but i know he would've had a more decent story, so i'm clueless to who wrote that.

That's all I've read so far. I'm slowly getting through them. I wish I fought apathy and produced my idea. It's Holidays! Mine was going to be about a Popcorn Salesman who got abducted.

Well, I finished the rest of them last night.  Alot of the writing styles look familiar, but the only one I'm fairly certain I can attribute is Wasteland, and I think Jordan wrote that because it had typos that I've only seen from him :)

Like a man...

It is fairly easy to pick certain writers out based on how they write. If you read the stuff they write and the kind of stuff they write.

Okay, I'm done! I read all of them, but with the exception of Popcorn 4994 - Helio, I have no guesses on who wrote what.

I think most of the scripts this time around were well written, some just didn't grab me story wise, but I'm not really a sci-fi fan either so don't take my lack of praise the wrong way.

Good job everyone!

What a shame! Next time will ask my friend Will to be my ghost-writer!

BTW, just to explain, Will is Mr. Goldman.
