While used for production scripts, I really think scene numbers would make reviewing scripts far easier.  The reviewer could point out specific problems by scene number.  And you can praise the writer by scene number.

Now, when I review, I have to point out the page number, and I hope I am doing a good job of pointing out the problem.

What do you think?  I am not distracted by the numbering, but I suspect some people may be distracted.  I wouldn't suggest making them mandatory, but I would love to see them when reading scripts exceeding 100 pages.

And you can down them off and on in Final Draft with a click of the mouse button.

The problem with that is the writer would have to refer to the script to see what you're talking about.  Which is easier to understand:

"I had a problem with the discussion in scene 65."

or

"I had a problem with the discussion between Jack and his father at the boathouse"

I don't always refer to my scripts when people comment on them; I don't always have them on me.

And not everyone uses Final Draft.

The problem with numbering is that it adds a lot of clutter to the pages.  Sure, if your script is being produced then it will have scene numbers.  Of course, by that time, the director and staff will have read the script so many times they will know the story forwards and backwards.

At this stage in the game, you want to make an impression with your story.  Putting in numbering will only take away from it.
