How would you write an easter egg into the story without making the reader think the easter egg plays too big a part?

By setting the story at Easter and having him given several.

Is this thread about ACTUAL easter eggs?

I'm confused by this thread, is this question about an actual easter egg or an easter egg found on dvd menu's?

I'm guessing it's about easter eggs as in hidden bonus material or special features but I have no idea how that applies to a screenplay. If it's not important it shouldn't be there.

When I first saw the title I presumed it was talking about the easter eggs you'd find on DVD's but I could see no possible relation to a script so I figured he must have meant it literally. ;D

If he didn't then I can only presume the script would have to be in electronic form and you would have a hidden link in the word. Very strnage though and you wouldn't need to disguise it. :-/

It could also mean a reference to something else but he did not want the reference to feel like a big part of the story.

That's what I took from it.
