SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Questions or Comments  /  Links in Search Results?

Don,

I have a question/suggestion. I don’t know how much trouble it would be. If it’s a great deal, then please never mind. If it’s not, then it’s something I’d really like to see.

How feasible would it be to put a discussion board link either in place of or along with the script link in the search engine?

In other words, if I type the name of, for example, Martin Lancaster, into the search engine, I’ll get a list of his scripts here at the site. However, the links will open up his scripts only. If I want to find the discussion board for any scripts, I’ve got to do some detective work.

Let’s say, for example, I search Martin and decide to read “Never Too Late.” I can read the script. But if I want to comment on it - assuming I’m someone who even knows there’s a discussion board for such things - the most information I’ll have to go on is the title and that it’s in the unproduced section. I’ll have to go to the unproduced section and link to a list of all the unproduced scripts at the site, then do a search through the list. It’s not a overly daunting task or anything but it would be nice if I could go directly to the discussion board for that script and read the logline, previous reviews, etc. If one is looking up several authors, it could easily become a daunting task.

I don’t know whether or not you have tools at your disposal that can relatively easily remedy this situation. If you would have to go through one at a time and do each individually, then obviously that would be too much work. But even if it’s not doable with past submissions, I still think it’s a good practice to get into with future submissions, if it’s not too much trouble to do it from now on.

Anyway, just a suggestion. There are many times - over the course of the years - I’ve wished there were discussion board links directly in the search results and it’s a suggestion I’ve been meaning to make off and on for quite a while.

What do you think?

Don is outta' town until Sunday, so don't take it personally if you don't get a quick response.

I will point out the "Search Board" function in the lower left of every sub-board -- I guess they are called subboards -- which can drastically cut down on your detective work.  I did not notice it for a very long time.

You can go to shorts -- or wherever -- and look for specific authors or words in a title.  It probably won't be much help with something like "Helio", but "Lancaster" should bring up a list of Don's first posts on each script.

Think I'll try it to make sure I'm not lying...

[Edit:  Yep.  Works for Holifield, too  :)]

Stalker!

;)

I've had the same problem actually when I've been searching for scripts on the main page.

Hey Bert, thanks for the information! That’s very useful!

However, what if I want to look up an author’s entire catalogue? Huh? What then smart boy? What if I want a list of all his work with links to the discussion board for each one? Huh? Yeah, what now, Muppet boy!?

Stalker!

I’m watching you right now with a telephoto lens. I can’t see anything though because it’s too dark. Wait a minute…I left the lens cap on…no, that doesn’t help; now all I can see is a giant hand…

I’m a totally inept stalker.

You have to use the buttfor.  That should take care of any problems in that regard.
