Hi everyone,

I'm new here and have never thought of the possibility to be writing screenplays and scripts and I'm simply blown away by this community. Thinking about making a movie and writing a script or even being a director is something that I thought would never be possible and only meant for the privileged few that find the opportunity to do so, but last week I had the feeling that something more is waiting for me and wondered about the film industry and here I am. I wrote a fantasy short last month just for the fun and now I'm thinking about developing it into something more.

I like animation and I'm also a 3D artist, 27, male and from south africa. Hope to show something soon and make some new friends  ;)

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and say hi.

Cheers
D.

Hello D.

Welcome to the forums. You found a nice community of fair people here.

And like Zack mentioned: it's about giving and taking. If you review other people's work, then they will return the favor and review your works.

Good luck and happy reading/writing,

Yves

I did some visual effects this summer on a student feature film. But I mainly do particle effects and things like muzzle flashes and explosions. But still, it's good to have a fellow effects artist on the boards!

Welcome!

Thanks for the Welcome. So last night I got this idea for an animation, and started to write and just couldn't stop. I kept having the one idea after another and had developed 4 characters and the whole story line. I cant believe I never thought of writing, it is so much fun! Like your own movie that plays before you putting yourselve in the action and determine the outcome of it. Its as if all makes sense now. Weird, but in a good way.  :)

About reading scripts, where will the best place be to start? Work in progress? or the unproduced ones?

@Chris-Harris: I haven't explore visual effects yet, but do know a bit about partical systems. I'm more facinated with the animation side to 3D than the special effects, although I like both equally when I watch a movie.

With reading unproduced scripts. You should always start with a thread that has a lot of replies. Twenty plus replies usually indicates a well-written script. Not only in story and character, but also in formatting.

A couple of scripts I recommend reading are Whispers in the thriller section, Open Your Mind, also in thriller (best script on the site in my opinion) and also The Farm, I think that's in horror. Those are my top three recommendations, anyway. They'll teach you a lot about writing and also leaving feedback. There are other good ones to read, and I'm sure you'll get around to 'em eventually.

Jordan, Martin, Bert, you're welcome in advanced for those unsolicoted plugs. I except to be promptly added to your Christmas card list. :D
