SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  Well, here we go I guess...

Ask me two years ago when I was just dreaming of getting into the industry some day if I would be directing my first feature film at the age of 17 and I'd tell you you were insane. But in this case, that is the case. hehe. I don't think that's too bad a start for a 17 year old kid from Norway, do you?

I'm teamed up with my friend Tommy Myrbostad (google his name) who I went to school with and He wrote down the idea and first draft of the script and I've read it and I was impressed. I can do a lot with it, but it needs some serious rewriting. It's up to me to make it shine and look good and having read the script and getting to know the characters I'd say it's gonna be an easy task.

I'm getting co.writer credit and the full director credit.

We got two guys who works on TV to be camera operators and cinematographers plus they've got their own equipment with a proffesional camera valued at about 20 000 dollars, plus camera equipment such as a steadycam, a crane and so on. And they only wanted 1700 bucks for the job.

We have a budget of around 8000 dollars, I'm not really sure, I'd have to get back to you on that, but for us to make a good movie, that's more than enough.

It's scheduled to start filming in the summer of 2008 and to be completed somewhere around this time next year. It'll then be put up in Molde movie theatre (google "molde" and you'll find out where it is) and we aim to bring in... well, I don't really know how much... But Tommy's a big name around here so I believe we're gonna make enough for a first picture.

Some facts about Tommy: freaky guy but dangerously clever. He's made a name of himself from making youtube films that mock young "fjortiser" (people who are 14 years old, not sure what the word is in English) in a humoristic way, and he puts his phone number at the end of the movies.. He gets several fan (and hate) calls each day. He told me he did this youtube project entitled "Fjortis The Movie" for two reasons. 1. To show to the people that he can entertain. and 2. To make a name for himself to make future film projects easier to produce. He has succeeded in both.

We're also gonna hold auditions soon to get actors and with Tommy's popularity we're getting like a milliom people a day who wants to be a part of the film. Auditions will be held soon in Molde.

Not too bad for the two biggest film geeks in Norway, eh?:)

Nice one Daniel!

Just one question...what you filming, did I miss that?  Is it something you wrote?

And I can't tell you much about the story other than it's entitled "The Hero" and it's gonna be the first ever "superhero movie" from Norway. But don't lose faith in me just because of that, it's not gonna be a pece of campy crap. It's gonna be more like the comic book "Batman: Year One". No superpowers and no wierd gadgets. Only a kid (Tommy Myrbostad's playing the title character) a ski mask, a four wheeler and his revenge.

I swear to God, it's gonna be a lot better than it sounds.

Hey Daniel, I'm proud of you for doing this. Everything ultimately comes down to actually doing something. A lot of people talk about what they are going to do, but there's a big difference between talking and actually doing. My favorite saying/slogan is "Just Do It".

Good luck with it!

Congrats Daniel!! I've directed a few short films, but I've always wanted to takke a crack at a feature. Just remeber the most important rule of film making, have fun!

Good job, Daniel.

One suggestion...is the title locked in?  It sounds a little generic.

The title "The Hero" is the english title directly translated from Norwegian.

It sounds a lot better in my language. Which is: "Helten"

And to answer your question, yeah, it's most definately locked in, Tommy's been advertising the film under that title for a while now.

Thanks to all of you for your support and comments:-)

Grats, man! Exciting news. That Norwegian title sounds cool in English as well, imo. :P

Good luck and keep us posted.

Well done Daniel!

Just one question, when it's done are we all going to have to learn Norwegian or is there going to be a version with English subtitles.

;)

There's pretty much a 100% chance of us getting this distributed to other theatres in the country as well as a DVD release, and I'm sure english subtitles will be arranged in the DVD.

So you'll have to buy it :)
