Interior car camera mount question

I'm getting ready to shoot the driving scenes for my movie, Andi & Sysco: The Only Movie Without A Plot, here in a few days, and I am having problems with the shot.

I don't know how much it would be to buy an actual interior mount, but I don't have any money for this, and I don't want to use any more of Andi's money.

I am wanting to set the camera (we're using a $400+ digital camera, not a camcorder, because it takes a hell of alot less room) on the dashboard, and film that way, I took a practice photo of what it'll look like, it looked really good, so I don't want to change the angle. The only problem is, I don't know how to get it to stay. I've tried tape, but no tape will stick to the dashboard, I can't do ANY damage to the car (like using nails to mount it)because it's not mine.

All I can think of is velcro, but I'm not really confident about it.

Do any of you know a cheap way to make a mount?

Hey Braksnen,

I've done similar shots to this before using a magic arm. If you connect one claw underneath the passenger seat and the other to the camera, you should be able to twist the arm around so the camera is positioned on the dashboard. Gaffer tape will secure it from there.

Hi :) Not sure if you figured your camera problem out but you can use industrial strength velcro...however that can be a big problem to get off...but any Staples, Office Max or the like carries double stick cushioned tape...not sure what it is called but I use it a lot for foam board poster projects to mount it on walls. It comes off pretty easy and will be in the tape section of the office supply store :) It also comes in white or black.

Buy a cheap suction cup mount, like those used for holding a cell phone or gps to the windscreen of a car. Buy a cheap generic one and modify it by simply drilling through the plactic mount at the end of the flexible arm and bolt (or use what ever fitting comes with the camcorder, or even hot glue it) it to the camcorder. That should be rock solid and felxible enough to set up any shot you want. All this will cost you is $10 max.
