Does anyone know what you would call a serious mockumentary?  I'm entering the one that I wrote (I shant say its name here in fear of being accused of plugging it) into the next Gimme Credit competition.  As it's not a comedy, I can't call it mockumentary.  I'm thinking something along the lines of pseudo-documentary, but I know there's something better.

Phil,

Some of the mockumentaries I've read lately (there's been a few) weren't funny at all, unless I completely missed all the jokes, which is a possibility. They were still considered mockumentaries.

Since I'm not mocking anything, I don't think I should call it such.

CHat room?

Phil,

Do you mean an actual term of which to call it by? If so, I guess pseudomentary could work, or maybe quasimentary, forgermentary, countermentary, doctormentary (okay, I'm going overboard here), but something along those lines.

I really don't want to make up a word, though quasi-documentary has a nice ring to it.

Thanks.

Then again, a serious mockumentary could also be called...a documentary (since, as you say, you're not mocking anything). I think I know which script you're refering to (I won't name it either but only because I can't remember the title), but as I recall you kinda did mock the whole Hard Copy approach.

I don't think they are mock as in "To make fun off" but in the sense of "fake or imitation", such as mock apple pie or a mock-up of a finished project.

Phil,

One of the definitions of mock is to imitate closely.  I don't think you should have any issue with calling it a mockumentary.

Michael is correct.

It is supposed to be a fake documentary.

" it's a fictional documentary. So a true mockumentary would be indistinguishable from a documentary except that it's usually absurd in subject matter, but doesn't have to be, and of course the subjects are fictional characters."
