This will be under construction for a little while, but I thought I'd show some progress out here instead of just on my ever evolving spreadsheet. You'll see some very long threads come of this, but this is because I'm merging oft-asked-question threads into long "there's no way this thread won't answer the question" threads...but hey, if there's still a question, you can add to that thread until it hits around 120 posts, then we'll create the sequel.

Click on the name and you'll go to the thread. From there, wade through the threads, and you're bound to find your answer.

Character Development - All about making your characters real

Copyright versus WGA Registration - This is 90% for the US, but some discussion over international copyright is here and there.

The Final Draft Thread - Comments and Issues come up enough with the screenwriting program Final Draft that it has its own thread

Flashbacks, Fantasies, and Dream Sequences - Right or wrong and how do they work?

How Many Pages Are In A Script? - Extremely common question

Montages and Series of Shots - Perennial Favorites

Query Letters, Loglines, and Pitching - The necessary evils of actually selling what you wrote

Reviewing - While not strictly screenwriting, writing about someone else's writing is a valuable skill around here

Screenwriting Software - This covers things like Word and Celtx. Everything but Final Draft, which is its own topic.

Sluglines - INT. THIS THREAD - DAY - More than you ever wanted to know about those silly headers.

Supers and Subtitles - It's written on the screen... in words!

Titles and Title Pages - These might be too dissimilar, but we'll see how it goes.

Transitions and Camera Directions - Basically how these conventions relate to spec screenwriting

Treatments, Synopses, and Outlines. Oh my! - All about those three elements that work together to get the story going.

TV and other screen inserts - What to do when you want the characters and the audience to watch TV or a movie or a computer gone awry.

Using Copyrighted Material - You didn't make, but you love it. Can you use it?

Voiceovers - The ins and outs of that voice inside their head.

We See You Breaking The Rules (The Debate Rages On and On and On) - Part III of everyone's favorite argument - enjoy the super-extended director's edition and sequels! This one is Part II and this is part I.

Where to Start Writing / Inspiration - Thoughts on where some people get their ideas to become the next great screenwriter.

Wrylies - Questions about those little parentheticals between the character name and the dialogue

It's looking good, George.

It should make for fascinating reading once it's done.

Added reviews and voiceovers, which are recent topics. May or may not add more today. Stay tuned.

EDIT: Now have sluglines too.

Don should highlight this in bold for everyone just joining.  While necessary, it gets very tiresome telling people that their formatting is fucked up problematic.

I think, story formulation and character development suffer more here than formatting.  Most software covers most of the formating issues for you.

What I keep seeing is screenplays, where the characters have no depth, or there are a lot of scenes that are just filler.  These give the screenplay page count, but they can quickly be cut.

I'd like to see more stuff on story development.

I have read so many screen plays that have good format, but who have stories and characters that are just not interesting.

I think it's a matter of taste as to what stories people find interesting/not interesting.

I'm not too sure how successful threads on story development would be.  Sure, you can talk about outlines and different dramatic situations, but when it comes down to it the story is still in the hands and skill of the writer of the script.

Holy-freaking carp (it is cr#p to defeat my own censor), George.  Thanks for taking the bull by the horns and bringing this neglected, but sorely needed thread back to life.

There are tons of topics in here that I haven't put together, and plenty of story topics. Fret not. Within the years this board has been compiling posts, almost everything is answered. But as I said...400+ posts is a lot to weed through.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I've considered this for quite a while, and it's about time I finally undertook it. There's a long way to go, however, as you can probably tell.

Oh, and "we sees" have several topics of their own as well to merge.

After much too long off, I've added TV stuff and merged the treatments, outlines, and synopses threads into one big one. More to come today as I've rooting through it.

EDIT 1: I've also stripped the "We see" debate out of this thread and popped it into the proper thread.

I don't know if you're taking suggestions or if you already ahve it all planned out, but a question that seems to pop up frequently is on title pages.  i could be wrong, but I think that could be a helpful one.

Great job, George.

P.s. is it weird that I'm kind of proud that the montage one links to a thread I started? (:

Not weird at all and titles pages are frequently asked, so yes I'll do that next. I am definitely taking suggestions since there are so many topics.

EDIT: Added the title page thing as well as using copyrighted material.
