OMFG!!!!!

I heard rumors that they were going to do a DBZ movie but I thought it fell through. Apparently they are going ahead with it and they've already cast the main characters:

                                           ...

Wha-- How-- God Wh--

My mind is blown... This is a sad, sad, sad, day...

..but trying to stay positive, this film is shaping up to be the best comedy of the year.
A link to what Goku should really look like for the uninitiated:

Why? The series was good as a anime, but live action.

I hate hollywood.

Sorry Sheepwalker, but I really doubt this will ever happen. The Dragon Ball phase is over...

That didn't stop them from the TMNT movie, did it?

As a fan, I really can't see how they can ecapsulate the entire series into a 2 hour movie.  It'll be interesting to see the results.

I don't think they are going to do the entire series in one movie. In most comic movies they do one arc. I'm sure it will be the same with this.

Maybe for you it is...

But like Dogglebe pointed out, it hasn't stopped them before. And besides, they don't really care about how popular it is right now. It's about the built in audience that will come out and see the movie. Example: Transformers, GI Joe, Speed Racer. I think that if they do a good job(or even a decent job), they will get a lot of the old fans to come out and they will make quite a bit of money. However, sadly, so far it's looking pretty bad.

Actually I still like the show... at least up until the Frieza Saga. But that stupid Yugi-whatever kinda stole the DB audience. But as Phil pointed out... you never know... ( I just doubt it)...

I hope to hell it doesn't happen.

Well, no more rumors. This IS happening. Filming secretly started back in december and they are shooting for an August 15 release date. Tons of cool info here- http://movies.ign.com/articles/852/852636p1.html

For a better look at those involve, go here- http://imdb.com/title/tt1098327/

I think the cast has potential... however, they need to shoot this movie like Beowulf was shot. It'd be a better fit in my opinion.

Most of the cast I somewhat approve of(Chow Yun-Fat is interesting, I don't know if he's the best choice but at least it's a big name) but that kid as Goku is still, in my mind, unacceptable. I don't see it at all. I also think it's a little silly to make the asian main character white among an otherwise entirely asian principle cast.(Marsters is painted green so he's alright)

In terms of the film's visual style, it'll be interesting to see what they do. I predict a massive departure but hopefully they will try to incorporate elements of the source material.

I'm pretty sure they've said it's going to be live action so it probably won't be done like Beowulf.

ps

I think Jack Black would make an alright Yajirobi.

According to IMDB (not the most reliable site ever) we could be seeing the trailer on March 14th, before Doomsday.

Hey,

Bad news guys. Dragon Ball been postponed till April 3, 2009.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1190667-_dragonball/news/1660816/

Now we have to wait for over a year for the guy who gave us "Black Christmas" to deliver the fatal blow to western civilization.

Is it really that surprising, Rob?

They're turning everything else into a movie, why not this?

HAHAHAHA!!! I'll admit, DB's not for everyone. But I can't help it, I love every cheesy ass episode of Dragon Ball(although I HATE DBZ and GT).

Have you saw the live action Dragon Ball movie?

I haven't seen it, but I've heard it was absolutely terrible. Aparrently it wasn't very faithful to the series.

The supersaiyans were dudes with machine guns, that's how far they stray from it.

I never *really* liked Dragon Ball. I just watched it to go with the flow back when it was "cool" to watch it. Other than that, I didn't care much for it. It was all right, but...I dunno. Something just didn't click.

Still think the kid playing goku looks like a douche. Disappointed that Chow Yun Fat isn't wearing a turtle shell.

Hopes falling.

I've been a db fan since i was a kid, and pretty much i still watch them this days when i have a chance.

But let me get this clear. For me making DB in a live action movie, is like making The Simpsons live action, think about it??? You'd have John Goodman play Homer, that's the same with Justin Chatwin.

I just can't imagine it. Plus i don't think it will be that good. In my point of view i can see the whole cast & crew trying to make the action scenes super cool, with super silly plot that everybody will spot miles away.

To conclude this, i don't think Piccolo will be killed by Goku, he has to be his ally, if they tend to stick as little as possible to the original Manga or Anime.

But who knows....

I remember hearing about this ages ago when they were talking about having Jackie Chan as Goku... I can't believe its actually getting made.

Full trailer up here for Dragonball: Evolution.

Not crazy about the new title, but the movie itself looks much better than I expected.

Looks like crap to me. The casting could not have been worse. Goku is supposed to be innocent, energetic, and strong. Not a clueless, emotionless moron like he is portrayed here.  Even Roshi seems out of character. Piccolo is good though, and the effects look nice. Bulma was a good choice as well, I believe.

This movie is going to get a shit - storm of negative critiscism, but I'll be watching it anyway.

Keanu Reeves is playing Goku?

That was random and funny, Phil. Congrats.

But in all seriousness, I cannot for the life of me accept Justin Chatwin as Goku. He is completely wrong for the role. Funny thing is, I shouldn't care about it--I did not particularly like Dragonball anime or the manga. I only watched it when I was little.  But I simply can't help but get upset when a well-known character is butchered like this, even if I do not particularly care about it.

I agree that Chatwin isn't the best fit. But he is a far better fit than Jackie Chan(who the fans wanted). You have to realize that this movie has very little in common with the anime. I'm going to watch the movie with the mindset that it has nothing to do with the show.

I get what you mean. I will watch it too. I mean, I've been spoiling for an Action/Fantasy film for a while now. Something not too kids-oriented like Narnia and crap like that.

Seriously, there should be more Fantasy movies these days. I can't believe it, but recently, I have actually begun watching some Anime shows simply because there isn't a very good selection of Sci-Fi/Fantasy flicks anymore.

So, as much a horrible adaptation it may be, I will be watching Dragon Ball in theaters. Maybe it'll turn out to be good, who knows?

I'm trying to stay positive. The movie looks like a good time, as long as you leave your brain at home.
