(I couldn't find another 'Hatchet' thread, but if there is one please move this there. Thanks.)

I've heard this movie is very good, but is kind of a rip off of Friday the 13th. Can anyone here confirm this?

I'm guessing this isn't about the kid whose plane crashes and he has to survive out in the wilderness, with nothing but a Hatchet?

It's a great novel, but I can't see it being a very good movie. It'd be like CAST AWAY, without Wilson or Tom Hanks. Booooring.

From IMDB, "When a group of tourists on a New Orleans haunted swamp tour find themselves stranded in the wilderness, their evening of fun and spooks turns into a horrific nightmare."

Haha ABS, I remember that book and reading it in 3rd grade...or some time ago. But this isn't a movie based on the book. It's about a mutated man or whatever who goes around and kills teens with a hatchet, I guess. Don't know why they'd use that title, because when I heard about this movie, I thought it was going to be about the book too, and I remember the book, and I think it'd be a good movie.

But I haven't seen it, I won't see it. It looks terrible. Though, you could as Jordan (TheBoyWhoCouldFly) here. He's seen it. There might be some other people also.

I've seen it. It is a Friday 13th rip off in the sense that it is basically just a tribute to it. It's an insult to your intelligence if you try to take it seriously, but if you just leave your brain at the doorway it should be a good time. It had that 80s slasher vibe, only modernized (Marilyn Manson music instead of 80s hair-metal, for example).

The characters weren't all teenagers. All of them had varied ages and different personalities with a cartoony touch to them that made them all entertaining to watch, so that's a plus. Not once does the film even try to ground itself in reality.

The killer Victor Crowly looks EXACTLY like a maskless Jason Voorhees, only butchier (both played by Kane Hodder).

Like I said, don't take it seriously. It is a tribute to 80's slasher flicks with nice little cameos by Robert Englund and Tony Todd. THAT'S IT. The movie doesn't bring anything new to the table, nor does it try to.

By typical 80s style slasher standards, it is a good film. Good kills, likeable characters, menacing villian. But nothing more.

Don't go see it if you're not a massive fan of those movies.

Just saw it and it wasn't too bad. the black dude was hilarious! You're right Jordan, this is more of a comedy than anything else. Also, Friday the 13th Part 2 is the best... Hatchet doesn't come close to the early Friday movies, but it is entertaining. I just don't think it'll have much of a lasting impression. I'll watch a sequel, but that's about the best I can say.
