Hey,

I start in Film Production at Vancouver Film School on March 3rd.  I couldn't remember...any Simply people other than Jordan that live in Vancouver?  We should, like, get coffee, or whatever it is you big-city folk do.

Ha, I live in Richmond, which is one of the surrounding cities and I was planning on going to the Vancouver Film School for the March 3 start date, too...but a combination of my lazyness and a road test on the exact same day made me decide to pursue a later start date(probably May).

Badass!

Are you going into Film Production as well, or something else?

I've got an actor friend who's starting Acting for Film and Television in May.

I don't live in Vancouver, but I need some eyes up there soon.

Jordan can fill you in on the details.

I'm in Van City.

I finished the screenwriting program at VFS last year... used to live in Richmond, now living in Ladner (15 mins from downtown Vancouver without any traffic... which will never happen in my lifetime).

Have fun at VFS.

I might be forced to get into that with the school's insanely high tuition costs(that's compared to other schools in Canada, not LA where it costs pretty much the same).  They say that some of it goes towards your film's budgets, but I bet that they'll just be like "Okay, here's 100 dollars -- go shoot your movie."

Haha funny you should say that.

My friend's in Film Production right now, just did his documentary...

Budget: $100.

Can't wait to hear what he gets for the mid-term drama.

I'm about 45 min away from van, and what ever you do stay away from east hastings, even though VFS is right on hastings, couple blocks east and ur in hell.

The Top 10 things Stewart saw while attending VFS at East Hastings campus:

1. People shooting up in the back alleys. You name it, they did it.
2. People having sex in Pigeon Park in the middle of the day.
3. Fights. Bar fights. Bum fights.
4. A guy barreling down Hastings in a shopping cart, right in the middle of the road, right at rush hour. classic.
5. Not 1, not 2, not even 3, but EIGHT people slipping on the slightly wet concrete corner of Homer and Hastings... and that was 1 day of watching.
6. People going to the toilet whenever and wherever they want.
7. Police incident after police incident.
8. Shoplifting from the VFS Cafe.
9. A man yelling at God for not giving him enough change to catch the bus to hell...???
10. A guy stopping his truck across 4 lanes of traffic so he could yell at a bus driver for bad driving.

fun times...

I've seen my fair share of crazy shit in Vancouver.  I love the shopping cart hill bombers.  What makes it truly awesome is that they have like 10 feet of crap stacked on top and 5 or 6 full garbage bags tied to the sides, yet they're still going as fast as the surrounding traffic -- not to mention steering the bloody thing with no trouble at all.

I grew up in Vancouver and have lived in quite a few places on the lower mainland:  South Van, Richmond, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam...

Say hello to the ocean for me-- look across the white rock beach to Bellingham.  Maybe go to the racetrack and put down a couple on a grey horse to win.  If you go on the 11th of June and you win, let me know.

Is the Brighouse cafe still open in Richmond?  They used to serve excellent Chinese food, but they weren't fancy shmancy.  How about the Skyline?  Is it still there?

Try driving by 7471 Francis Road, (the old place isn't there anymore) but you might see some ghosts.

Did they ever connect the two malls in Richmond Centre or do you still have to exit Sears (formerly Simpson Sears) and walk on the parking lot road to get into The Bay's mall?

Vancouver holds a lot of sentiment for me.  The only thing I don't miss is all of the rain and even that I think of in a far more positive light than I ever did when I was young.  (I admit it.  Yes. The "was" young part.)

Keep us updated on your adventures.

I live in Poco right now but work in Richmond which, for those who don't know, means I commute 45 min into work each day.   On the plus side though I get to do alot of sightseeing.

Mike, I see filming taking place all the time in and around Van.  Maybe one of them was 'Hero'.
