Yes, there will be a One Week Challenge.

Topic will be announced on our about Friday, February 15, 2008 at Midnight (est).  You, if you choose to participate, will have one (1) week to write a 12 page or less script on the topic and genre to be announced.

The contest is sponsered by iScript.com who will audio perform one selected script.

Sandy, over at Whiskey Loose Tongue will be helping out on the Challenge.  What he will be doing is, for now, a "sea-kret"*.

And, of course Phil will be the driving force behind the genre and theme and topic.

More info as I make things up.

I think that Voice is claiming that a person's OWC script was bought so he will like to enter.

Anyway, I can't wait. Hopefully I can improve from before.

Do you hear voices often Gabe?

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Hooray! There's going to be an OWC!

I have hear one of the unproduced script from here have found the buyer? I would like to submit one of my.

I mean no disrespect because English is a very hard language to learn, but that got a deja vu-induced chuckle out of me.  It reminded me of when my grade 8 French teacher would translate our work out loud when it was obvious we just used a online translator.

I'm looking forward to this.  Luckily I haven't started my feature yet, so I'll have some time to participate.

I'll bet this OWC's theme will involve a "seacrate"...

ok, let start the battle!

:-)

In order to enter the OWC you have to be able to form a sentence in English without butchering it.

If you really want to battle. Try those Pokemon battle cards or whatever they are called now. Look kinda neat.

Wesley, Dude. Not very inclusive of you. I am sure someone without a 100% grasp of the English language is allowed to enter the OWC, after all there are plenty of Americans on here! (JOKE FOLKS - calm down).

Seriously though the world is a big old place and If there are people on here from other countries who's English may not be that great but are still willing to write scripts and give it a go then good for them. They should be encouraged and welcomed to our spirited community just like anyone else. Once they are established here of course is a different matter, we can rip the shit into them all we can then! ;-)

I was joking of course.

But when we have people who post "stupid" on purpose as opposed to people who can't speak/type the language it does get very tiring. Like Trailer Runs, that guy had a bunch of words and didn't make any sense and I think he/she/it was only doing it for attention.

The only kind of attention those people get is negative.

We shouldn't be so inclusive if the writer doesn't read anything though. Those people should be brought to the forefront and asked Why? and some of them being regulars... One strike and you're out kind of thing.

The OWC is a privilege and people who abuse it shouldn't be aloud to enter it in the future.

That's my opinion.

People should be required to post their board user names on the scripts, just so we know if they're active members.

Some of us want it to be a bit exclusive, Murph, and we make no apologies for it.

Every time we have a OWC, there are people who pop out of the woodwork and submit a script, get 15 or so reads, and contribute absolutely zilch.

Your clue -- look for people who have 1 post -- on this thread -- "Woo-ha! I can’t wait to play!"

They are most often leeches who abuse their anonymity to get feedback and read absolutely nothing.  There are exceptions -- people who wander over for the contest then stay to contribute -- ABSteel springs to mind -- but those are rare.

Don is very forgiving and accepts stuff from just about anybody -- and even though he has tightened up on requiring at least a rudimentary understanding of format -- I don't think we will ever convince him to exclude nonmembers outright.  That is his prerogative.

Once you have participated in one of these and invested good time in a half-dozen or so leech scripts, you will see where we are coming from.

Okay folks, I kinda get your point, Not really seen much of that yet but like you say now we have a OWC maybe I will see.

I wasn't being totally serious and did not mean to offend Wesley. I just kind of felt sorry for the guy thinking he may have really been a foreign dude. I can be a bit naive like that!

You can sometimes tell if a member uses English as a second language or if they're just illiterate.  This goes for both their scripts as well as their postings on these boards.  There are those here who post messages as if they're texting from their phones.  This, IMHO, is extremely lazy and shows no respect for the language.

It's not a requirement, but there is a field for entering your discussion board name on the "Submit Your Script" page.

And that was my idea way back when haha

The fact that the OWC has to be anonymous is what saddens me about this whole thing. That says that the person sending the script cannot trust "readers" to review the same way because they know who the person is.

And especially since it's for fun that makes it even worse.

We don't pick the winner. In a way we all win if it turns out well.

has it been done before? showing the person's real name near their works?

The very first one had names next to the script titles.  That was the drama about someone who works at a funeral home and their childhood bully comes in.  That was pretty cool.

I am fairly new to this site as well as script writing in general, but I am glad to be given the chance. I think it was Bert who posted somewhere saying that he was afraid of giving suggestions to the "big boys" at first. It is a little scary because none of us want to be made fun of on these things. I have only posted one script and just when i had a second one ready Don closed down the "Submit Your Script" portion of the site.

I will be participating in the OWC and I hope the camaraderie will continue as it has. It has been fun and I look forward to the day when I can get my 1000th post.

So look for me at the Challenge. I can't wait!

I think that in the type of situation we have where the read is an open read (we can read any script we want) that it probably distributes the reads better if the writer is anonymous.  If the names were listed that might skew the read kurtosis by attracting or repelling readers.

I'm rare!

I like the anonymity. It might not be right, but at least gives the scripts a fair shot.

Isn't that a sad truth?

You're saying if the names were on the scripts right away instead of a week later the people who read all the script would avoid a few and that makes them petty and poor excuses for members.

Personally, I read things based on the idea itself and not the writer. I even read stuff by the infamous script stealer of SS lore and I never liked him for various legit reasons.
