Haven't seen much mention of this on the board. Now that it's on DVD maybe more will have the chance to see it.

A well written low-key thriller/character piece. It's hailed as a throwback to the intelligent thrillers of the 70's and while it's in that vein, I'd hesitate to put it alongside All The President's Men.

But it IS a tight little movie. Great performances all around, nice direction and out of the nominated scores this year, this one deserves the Oscar. Clooney as well turns in a solid performance.

I liked the movie very much, one of the best of last year.

Of all of last years movies it is the best script I have read, really good read. It is posted on Simply Scripts and well worth reading.

  Great movie with a fatal flaw.
  Without giving too much away, the incident with the horses was a pull moment that took you out of the film while your mind tried to work its way around the serendipity of the situation.
  OK I’ll delve deeper but if you haven’t seen the film stop here as it can ruin it for you.

  The problem was the all the elements existed for the Clayton to survive and change without intervention of muse. The improperly installed device, the partial fall from the wagon, the meeting with the client, were all elements to cause his change in attitude. Finding the device naturally given the electrical problems should have been enough to generate a logical narrow escape.
  But to stroll from the car in the middle of nowhere to check out some horses who would normally be skittish at best.
  I wonder if this point was ever discussed during pre-production and if so, the argument used to make it through to the end.
