Since the old thread got deleted when the discussion board went AWOL, I thought I would start up another one with the annoucement that this untitled film has been un-untitled. The X-Files: I Want To Believe hits theatres on 25th July (24th if you live in Australia  :P)

The official website can be found here. Nothing too exciting, but be sure to stay tuned for more updates.

I'm not all that thrilled about this new title. Personally, I think they could've done a little better than that.

What do you guys think?

Not 100% crazy for the title, but still am excited to see the film.

But I wonder that the title will reference, since Chris Carter has said the movie isn't part of the TV mythology/alien conspiracy plot ( and since it's claimed the leaked werewolf shots were intentional hoaxes? )...

Good point, Mike. At any rate, I will believe. Scratch that - I already believe. Can't wait for this movie.

[EDIT] Actually it's only the website that has the title "I want to believe". The movie is still called "UNTITLED X-FILES MOTION PICTURE".

BTW, Gillian still looks good!

We have possible word on the plot. No one is officially confirming or denying the legitimacy of the synopsis, and it's actually for the novelization instead of the movie, but it still could clue us in as to what this movie is actually about:

Quoted Text
"Mulder and Scully are back in the thrilling novelization of the summer 2008 blockbuster movie based on the classic X-Files TV show! When a group of women are abducted in the wintry hills of rural Virginia, the only clues to their disappearance are the grotesque human remains that begin to turn up in snow banks along the highway. With officials desperate for any lead, a disgraced priest?s questionable ?visions? send local police on a wild goose chase and straight to a bizarre secret medical experiment that may or may not be connected to the women?s disappearance. It?s a case right out of The X-Files. But the FBI closed down its investigations into the paranormal years ago. And the best team for the job is ex-agents Fox Mulder and Dr. Dana Scully, who have no desire to revisit their dark past. Still, the truth of these horrific crimes is out there somewhere...and it will take Mulder and Scully to find it!"

I heard David or Chris Carter talking about the plot and saying they will not leave out the fact that what happened happened in the series so they cannot just forget it.

Scully had a kid at the end of the series... how will that factor in?

My mind is foggy on the end of the series but what about Doggett and so on and so forth.

I have high hopes that the film will be made for the fans of X Files and make a satisfying end and new adventure for us to go on.

I'm wondering if there's enough of a fan base for this movie.  I don't remember the first one doing well; I saw it on cable and wasn't very impressed with it.

I wouldn't be surprised if this movie fails for the same reason that Sex In The City will fail.
