I just heard on the news that an Austrian woman had been kept prisoner by her father in their basement for 24 years. During that time she gave birth to six of his children and the kids lived in the basement with her too.

That's why some of the best stories comes from real life, real events. Humans are weird and do weird things.

I read that story in the Swedish news. makes me wonder what's going on in Austria. Small country to have two stories like that in one year.

I'm half Austrian btw. Maybe that's were my strange side comes from...

I just told this to my wife and she agrees.

At least I let her out the basement for 1/2 each day to clean the kitchen and iron my shirts. She is grateful for that at least.

I agree. That's why I find slasher scripts so tedious; because I look at them and think sheez, is that the most twisted shit you can come up with? Slashers aren't shocking. They're safe.

I had read that today too.

Obviously the father was a deviant, but I am wondering if it was a warped kind of love he had for his daughter and if incest was something that ran in the family's history, it could have produced mental problems because of the lack of gene pool and same genetic types.

If this indeed was so, then it's possible that his daughter had mental problems and was suicidal and he, rather than having the state-- or whatever you call it-- involved, chose to keep her safe and close, where he figured she could do no harm to herself and his entire mindset was a crazy possessiveness.

Meanwhile, he's warped, but continues doing the deed.

Now of course, this is all just my building a fictitious causality that you are all welcome to go ahead and use in your script, but it does make sense when nothing else seems to make sense.

If he loved his daughter-- despite the totally disgusting thought of how he chose to show it-- but if he really did love his daughter in a warped way and feared for her safety, it's possible that he thought locking her up was the best thing for her.

I'm thinking he was just so twisted in such a way that it's possible he had sex confused with love.  And I wouldn't be surprised if his wife knew she was locked up there and that he lied to his wife saying, "I brought her a boyfriend for company.  So she can have at least a little bit of a normal life."  Or something like that  and when the pregnancies occurred, they were no surprise.

In the news article I had read, they said they figured that relatives knew and that there was a cover up.  I agree that that was probably the case.
