SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  Hey guys, I'm new!

Hello. I'm 19 years old, and I write a bit of stuff. Short stories, scripts, poems and that. When I stumbled across this site the other night, I thought it was amazing. Still think it's amazing obviously, so I joined up. I want to write in some form as a job when I'm older (and better looking :) )

Few quick questions, and I'm sorry if they have been answered a zillion times before. Yes, I have checked out lots of the FAQ's.

Are the scripts on here actual movies out in the cinema's now? Real scripts written by the writers? Or do people see the movie, and then try and write a script from that?

What if I post my idea up on here and people steal it? How do I stop this?

I use Final Draft, is this a good program?

Are there people on this site which actually buy scripts after reading them here? (not that mine are anywhere near good enough for selling, I'm just wondering)

Thanks very much. Very excited to be here! Can't wait to post, review, and most importantly WRITE more!

The vast majority of the scripts here are non-produced and written by the SS community.  There are a few people who rewrite scripts from existing movies, nbut they are in the minority.

Register it with the Library of Congress, or Writers Guild of America.  It still won't guarantee that someone won't steal it, but it'll make it easier to get it back.

It's very good.  When submitting a script, don't do it in .fdr format as not everyone can open it.  Save it as a .pdf and then submit it.

A number of scripts have been produced after the producer/filmmaker finds them here.

This site is pretty much (but not really) split in two sections. On the "Main Site" you'll find on ton of scripts for produced movies. Here, where we are now - The Message Board, is where all the unproduced scripts get posted (they get posted on the main site too but that's another story). Some of the scripts here are fan-fics (aka. remakes, sequels, prequels, reloads etc.) but 99% are original scripts.

Here you'll have the opportunity to review other people's scripts (and I suggest you do that if you expect a review in return) while other members can review your script.

If you plan on reviewing some scripts here, may I suggest that you stick to the scripts where the author is actually a member on these boards. Otherwise you'll just be talking to yourself.

Cheers
Rob

Fantastic guys. I love a board with fast responses :)

What I meant, was a script, for example the Pineapple Express script on the "Movie Scripts" page, is that a copy actually written by Seth Rogen? (And whoever else). Or did someone re write it after watching the movie?

Reviewing stuff now!

Yeah, they are the shooting scripts, for the most part.  They should say "Written by" on them, and the names are real.

You will sometimes find "transcripts" -- mostly in the TV section -- where some poor soul has sat down with a typewriter and furiously transcribed everything that was said.

I do not see much point in those, but there are a few floating around.

Use them for inspiration and not as guidelines, shooting scripts usually differs quite a bit from spec scripts (which is what this forum is all about).
