Hey there,

My name is Tom Johnson, one of the judges of the [redacted] screenplay contest. As a posted writer on simplyscripts.com I would like to invite you to take advantage of our special offer. But before I do that let me give you a little information about our company and contest:

Our production company [redacted] was founded by a group of working industry producers from the New York Film Academy in 2008. Our contest is not like any other you can enter this year because we actually develop projects before we judge them. So if the idea and concept of your script is great but it might need a little work, we've got you covered.

The judges and producers in the 09’ contest will include reps from companies such as New school entertainment, Screen Gems, Miramax Films, New York Film academy, Summit entertainment, New Line Cinema, United Artists, and prizes include a $15,000 script option, tuition grant to the New York Film Academy’s 8-week screenwriting program, screenplay software, and much much more…

For further information about the contest and our great organization you can log onto:

[Redacted]

With this special invitation you can enter this year’s feature screenplay, Short, or TV script contest for $35 with this promotional Simply Scripts code:  *********

*You can also find us on moviebytes.com as well as Creative Screenwriting magazine and Script Magazine in 2009. email me if you have any additional questions at inquiries@scriptvisioncontest.com

That is the exact e mail.

Is Tom really a posted writer?

Before I enter any competition, I check to see what others say about it at moviebytes.com.  If there's no reviews, I generally pass on it.

I’ve noticed a distinct increase in emails concerning competitions lately. I was wondering if someone had been harvesting emails here. Thanks Don for clearing this up.

Also, the sent to list on my email from Tom Johnson contained my current email address and an old one. Is it possible they are harvesting emails from the archives?

I have received emails lately regarding competitions.  But I was assuming i signed upto something I didn't realise.  I'll double-check in future to see if they're name dropping SimplyScripts.

Quite possibly.  I use (a) instead of @ to deter spiderbots from auto harvesting, however, it doesn't deter anyone who is patient enough to go through my html manually and pick out email addresses.

Good heads up,
thanks Don,
I've been getting a lot lately too.  It's good to know why.
I would have entered them too, if they accepted my 155 page length :(

Maybe a nitpick, but I question why there would be reps from New Line Cinema when it became a subsidiary of Warner Bros. in February and their output has been drastically cut.
