Hey All,

I just received an email that this has gone online, so I just wanted to put it up here to share.

Script can be found here

Iscript can be found here

This was filmed in the spring of '08, and premiered at the Naperville Independent Film Festival last August.

This is just the first cut, but they're working to get the final cut with the original score and improved sound done sometime in the near future.

Out of all the short scripts I've written, this one is still my favorite.  Hope you enjoy it.

I watched it... I hadn't read the script, so this was all new to me. I thought it was a pretty good script, but there were a few things in the film which I didn't like... I thought the young girl really overacted her part. I mean at first I chuckled because she was so over the top, but then it got a bit annoying... The young man started off alright, but when him and the girl walked away from Mr Gloom, he took a note out of the girl's book... and started overacting the hell out of his part. The old Mr Gloom wasn't a bad actor at all, neither was the old women. They were both pretty decent.

I didn't have too many complaints with the camera-work, apart from I really didn't like the crane shots the tried to do... They felt shakey, and un-professional. There was also a few other shots I didn't like (I think it was when Mr Gloom was using the ATM and the audience were positioned as the ATM).

The sound needed some work (the levels were all over the place), but they already know this, so I'm not going to bang on and on. I actually thought the music was alright here... What is the new music going to be like?

Oh, and I didn't like the CGI bird at the end of the film either... Personally, if I was the director, I would have used a more filmable way to show Mr Gloom is still unlucky. But that's just me.

But yeah, for what this was, it was a pretty enjoyable film. So I presume the script is set in the future? Either that, or Mr Gloom's 1950s PC was looking pretty modern :P

Congrats on getting this filmed again man, I preferred this video to your other short that was produced (damn, can't remember the name - but it was the "love" sotry one, where the dude smashes his glasses).

Toby.

Yeah well done. It was good. Sound has been a bit of trouble for these up and coming movie makers!

I liked it.  I liked the camera work, and was excited when they did a crane shot.  I thought, "Wow!, a true independent filmmaker with a crane?!"  :)

I really liked the bank robbers already being dressed in jail outfits and the cliche masks.  They were funny!

I couldn't help it, but I kept picturing Ed Asner and Lily Tomlin as the elderly Mr. and Mrs. Gloom, reprising their roles from the X-Files: How the Ghosts Stole Christmas.

Hey Mike,

I thought it looked great.  And of course the story was cute - I've read the script so I knew what to expect.

I did think that technically he needs to sort out the sound. It's very uneven and the VO needs some background noise to even it out with the park location.

I thought it needed a bit of tightening.  It goes at the pace of a foreign drama when it should go at the pace of an American comedy (or at least a Canadian one - this always struck me as a Canadian script for some reason.)

I thought the acting of the two youngsters was pretty bad.  Why did he cast someone their age to play that part?  I always thought they were supposed to be younger.

Overall, I enjoyed it. I look forward to seeing what he does with it in the next cut.

Now that is a short film to be proud of. Awesome stuff.  The kitchen scene is my favourite. Cracked me up and top notch comedy. pop out at left field, gets 'em everytime.

I noticed this was posted on SS 2006. It was filmed 2008 and now we get to see it in 2009. such a long journey from script to short film. Was the script picked here or did you shop it around?

Hey Glenn,

Thanks for checking it out.  I posted it, I think some time in spring 06, then in the winter of 06 it was picked up by a director via an ad I answered on Craigslist.  From then it was just the time it took to get produced, entered into a festival, and eventually put up online.

I plan on watching the whole thing later, and I think it's really awesome that you got your stuff filmed. But I found the woman at the start really annoying. Though, the whole thing looks really good and I'm looking forward to watching the rest.

You had any other scripts filmed, out of interest?

Thanks for watching guys.

I think I've had about 8 produced so far, and there are a few more currently in the works, including the features.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.  ;D
Congrats on getting it produced. I'm sure it will be a keepsake for your children, and your children's children to enjoy for years to come.
It was a very nice story with a feel good ending. Something that if you're having a bad day, it will certainly make you feel better.
I think we need more movies like this.

And now to the features...???
What is getting produced???...
and when will it be available???

Another big congrats for that, too.  ;D

Go on with your bad self!  ;D

Thanks for checking it out, Cindy.

As far as the features go, Jack Amsterdam and The Hero of Her Heart are both out there right now looking for funding, so I'm not sure when they'll be filmed/available.

Coffee & Inspiration has been filmed and I expect to get a copy of it any day now, which I'll watch and then see what options I have as far as distribution goes.

Hello/Goodbye, which I wrote for Topher from the boards, has been filmed and currently being edited.

There are a couple of things that I wrote on assignment that should be filmed late this year/early next year, and one script that I worked on but took my name off of due to an extreme lack in quality once my work was pushed aside.

I think that's it in a nutshell. :)

That's just fantastic!

Please be sure and keep me informed, okay?
I consider you a friend, and I'm always very happy when my friends do well.  ;D

Congrats again,

Cindy

Congrats Shelton. I thought the script was a lot better than the film. They did kill a few jokes. On the whole though it was pretty enjoyable. Well done to you.
