Of Sound Mind by Cameron Mitchell

As you all know, in early April we had the April One Week Challenge wherein participants were asked to write a 12 page dramatic script about a secret revealed at a family picnic .  We had 33 entries.  The fine folks over at iScript.com were kind enough to select one script out of the group to be recorded.

The selected script is Of Sound Mind by Cameron Mitchell .

The wealthy Hogarth clan gathers for a picnic in the woods, to be followed by a reading of the patriarch's will.  The family will never be the same.

You can read along with the pdf version of the script here.   You can listen to the iScript here.

I know that people want winners.  So, all those who took up the One Week Challenge are winners.  Those who didn't take up the challenge are losers (and probably feel their lives cheap that they didn't take up the challenge, including yours truly).

I asked each writer to pick three scripts they enjoyed the most of the scripts they read.  The writer's choice scripts are:

Sunday is the Worst Day to Die of The Plague by Daniel Meade (electricsatori)

Always and Forever by Sean Elwood (thedeadwalk2nite)

Sweetie by Astrid Romero

Of Sound Mind by Cameron Mitchell

Thanks to Dogglebe (Phil) for coming up with the challenge.  I'm going to highjack the Summer 09 OWC from Phil because I have a really cool idea that I stole from somebody. The Somebodies will be revealed at a later date.

Very special thanks to iScript.com for sponsoring the challenge and judging the final scripts.

Awesome! Congrats Cameron. I really enjoyed yours. I thought the twist was very well brought out, and that the speech that was made in the script about each character was funny but shocking as well.

Again, congratulations!

Congrats Cameron!

Good for you!

Although it wasn't my favorite, it seem to have been everyone else's. :-)

Cool.  That means that I can enter it again.  And maybe the Halloween OWC.

Thanks.  I started writing this on that Thursday night and finished it Friday, just before the deadline.  If I had to go back, I would definitely change a couple of things, notably a couple of the character descriptions and some clunky bits of dialogue.  But overall, I was pleased with how it turned out, considering I cranked it out in a couple of hours.  This was my first challenge, and I had a good time with it.  I read and liked all the finalist scripts, particularly Always and Forever.

Thanks again to everyone who read and reviewed the script.

Congratulations, Cameron.

I must confess I have yet to read this one, but you've delivered before, so I've no doubt you are good value.
