SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Simplyscripts Collaborative Effort  /  Seven Deadly Sins
Posted by: michel, May 14th, 2009, 4:16pm
I know there are already some series involving SS writers in this thread but I'm looking for 6 writers to create a collegiate mini series of shorts just for fun.

The subject would be the Seven Deadly Sins.

Each writers would create his own short in his own style in the category of his will (drama, comedy, horror...) and the communion of all would create that mini series.

The subjects are, of course:

Pride
Envy
Gluttony
Lust
Anger
Greed
Sloth

If the challenge tempts you, please let me know.

Gilligan's Island is a passion play about the seven deadly sins.  I bet no one knew that.

This sounds interesting.  I'd be up for it if others are.

Would anything else connect the stories besides the sins?  Or would it just be that everyone writes their own individual script based on a sin?
Posted by: michel, May 14th, 2009, 4:53pm; Reply: 3
In fact, it would be something like the Masters of Horror series. Everyone writes his own individual script based on one sin. Once we get the seven writers we would decide who does which sin and the average number of pages of each script.

For now we are two.

Normally I would jump on this Michel, but I'm too busy at the moment. I love this kind of stuff and I think there was discussion about doing something similar before.

Interestingly enough is that I've been tinkering with the same idea for a feature. 7 shorts connected by a narrator. Sort of like Tanis of SoulShadows.

Good luck though and I look forward to reading them. :-)

Michel, I'd have trouble keeping the film Seven with Freeman, Pitt, and Spacey out of mind if doing this.

You'll have just one sin to do and a whole story about it, it's quite different. It's up to you, There si no precise criterion as long as you do your homework. Try to have you mind open... You'd be welcome anyway Gray

I'm tempted Michel. As long as I have my Soulshadows episode completed by the time people start writing these I'll take part. This was something we discussed when coming up with Soulshadows.

It'd to be good that we have some feminine touch , but anyone around hiere look like overbooked (and I'm not referring to Breanne...)

OK! ONE MORE! LAST CALL!!!!

Waiting for the last one to come,

Ste
Gary
Dressel
Abe
and Andrew

start to think about the sin you want to work on. In case, there would be a double in your mutual choice, pick up two. Then we'll try to make a fair attribution. I hope non one would be frustrated.

Michel 8)

Just for your information I started to work on Anger
Posted by: Ledbetter (Guest), May 16th, 2009, 8:27am; Reply: 15
Michel,
Help a brother out. Being new here I would love to do something like this. Im not sure what is expected though. Would I pick a sin, and then a Genre and then write a short story based on that? If so, I'll do it. Just don't expect to much. I have just started writing.
Posted by: michel, May 16th, 2009, 9:24am; Reply: 16
Ste, Gary, Dressel Abe, Andrew and Ledbetter

Pride
Envy
Gluttony
Lust
Greed
Sloth

Ok? Now please pick up the sin you'd like to treat, and add another one just in case they'd be a double. Your short must be 15-20 pages (please try to disversify the genre, try to not all choose Horror) and even if there's no link between them, it may lead to a feature
I hope you don't mind I already chose "Anger" and starts to work on it. I did so because as you might guess  English is not my natural language and I have to work slower than you all. Hope all this is fair to you.

Gentlemen, do your pick!

Any question?

Come to think of it Michel, I have something I started a couple of weeks a go and then forgot about. I could finish it. I think it would fit in with "anger".

You should probably change "Anger" to "Wrath". It just sounds cooler 8)

Yeah, you should probably just assign them to us, rather than waiting for everyone to check in.  I'm sure everyone here can work with what they're given.  :-)

Also, a deadline would be nice.

So, just to clarify, we'll submit to Don on the 23rd - are we going to do so under a banner?

Cool, so, are we submitting it via the usual way i.e. Script link? I am not au fait with what the 'Series' thread is - do we just upload, and highlight it's part of a series?

I know the portal and where the scripts are, and that's it!

I should be able to get a draft together by the 23rd. Is there any reason for the tight deadline though?

Sloth is a good one and could work with alot of genres. I'll have a think and let you know which genre I'm going with Michel.

Did you already write it? Is it 15-20 pages?
Might be a good idea to have Michel or anyone else give it a read first.

You have until the 23rd...  :-)
Posted by: Ledbetter (Guest), May 17th, 2009, 7:14pm; Reply: 35
I missed where it said 15 to 20 pages. I thought it was 10 to 15 pages and I wrote 11. Perhaps to short? I can extend it if need be. A comedy short on Pride was easy. And NO I dont know how to have someone review it first. Still dumb at this.
Posted by: Grandma Bear, May 17th, 2009, 7:20pm; Reply: 36
It's okay. :-)

I'm personally too busy to read at the moment, but I'm sure Michel would read it since it's his series. You could also make a post on the "review exchange" board. Usually people get some reads from doing that.

Also, tell Don not to post the one you just finished because you want to make it the best it can be.

Just about to have a look at your script now, Ledbetter - got to love a bit of R RATING!!

The sunset was lovely, btw :)

The basic gist of my greed premise is that we have a couple, one of which is long suffering and the other is a greedy so and so - the issue I am having is deciding who's perpetuating the greed! My choice is fairly crucial 'cos it will pretty much decide the genre for me. Will definitely send something over to both yourself and michel by Friday, and anyone else who fancies a read.

Michel, since you're the person in charge wouldn't it be presumptuous of me to let you know I'm doing lust? This is why I simply waited for confirmation from you, the guy in charge. You already knew I was interested.
Anyway, you've done 'lust' already so there you go...

OK. Now it's enough!

It's called "Simplyscripts Collaborative Effort"

Each person who participates has exchanged ideas, had communicated to one another. Not only to me. In French we call it "scrupulousness" or even "politeness". Everyone did but you.  I was maybe "in charge" but you were the "applicant". When you want a job, do you wait for the boss to call you?

I knew you were interested. At this time, we had a complete team. I told you I had in mind another similar project you could do after.

I did a "Lust", just in case, you would finally fail. Remember? I had no news from you. That's as simple as this. If you did a "Lust" on your own, I'll retain mine and leave yours. I'm not writing for competition.

It's up to you.

Posted by: JamminGirl, May 21st, 2009, 3:50pm; Reply: 73
I PMed Dressel asking if everyone knew that he wanted me to do it. He said he PMed you. I asked him to make it public before I started writing because I didn't want to seem presumptuous. He did and you told him you already wrote it.
That's that.

"There were the Magnificents Seven, the Seven Dwarves, the Seven Samurais, even the Seven Wonders of the World. And now here come:

We know why they so tempting. Now discover why they are so deadly?"

I'm not so sure I like that logline Michel.

I don't really care for the comparison to other movies and besides, the seven deadly sins have been around since about 375 A.D and has had a big impact on especially Christian society throughout history. I think it's of a bit more importance than "the seven dwarfs"...

Maybe that's just me though. I think of those taking part in this, we should be able to come up with something better and more intriguing.

Nothing personal.  :-)

Nope, I am uploading in the next few hours.

We have until the 25th, anyway, so will meet that deadline.

Quoted from Don

I will post one of the seven deadly sins.  I will do this every night for one week.
They will be posted in order for least worst to most worst deadly sin according to Dante.

Don

So, it should be:

- Pride
- Envy
- Anger
- Sloth
- Greed
- Gluttony

and
- Lust

Shawn, you'll be the first to join the fray

Looks like Don took the sins in reverse order. Or wasn't it me?

In Dante's Purgatorio, Dante ascends the Tower of Purgatory starting with Pride, then Envy, Wrath, Sloth, Greed, Gluttony and then Lust.  At the beginning, an angel draws seven P's on Dante's forehead.  As Dante passes each level, a P is removed and he feels lighter, weighed down less and less by sin.  After lust, Dante has no more P's left and is no longer weighed down by sin and the he ascends to the Garden of Eden.

And that means what according to the order of the sins? I think what Michel was asking was should it be LUST or PRIDE to start and or LUST or PRIDE to end? As you have it now, LUST starts and PRIDE ends. Above you say PRIDE is the first and LUST is the last. Not that it matters. I mean , you're the mod.

I stated that "Dante ascends the Tower of Purgatory starting with Pride..."  Pride, according to Dante, is the most worst of the seven deadly sins.  I am posting the scripts in order of least worst to most worst (again, according to Dante), and have therefore started with Lust.

For the purposes of this series of scripts, I'm using Dante's interpretation as a measure of what is most worst and what is least worst.  Has nothing with me being a mod.

I fail to see how Pride is any worse than Wrath. Whatever. I'll be reading the scripts when they're posted.

Me, either.  However, for the purposes of this series of scripts, I'm using Dante's interpretation as a measure of what is most worst and what is least worst.

Wait, what's the logic for how these scripts are being posted?  Is it like least worst to most worst or something?
Posted by: ReaperCreeper, May 30th, 2009, 9:39pm; Reply: 116
'Worst' as in the gravity of the sins (according to Dante anyway) Shelton, not the quality of the scripts.

The most harmless sins will be posted first. That's how I understand it.

I mean no disrespect to either the Mod or any person on this site. I fall on my sword with regards to arrangement of SINS. I confess, I had a party at home tonight with some friends who were interested in this series and it (to my own stupidity) started this trying to drum up both interest in my screenplay as well as SS. I was only going by what was posted with respect to order. Again, my apoligies. Shit. I think I will simply back out of this site and not continue to make an ass of myself.

Gosh Shawn, if I backed out of everything just because I made an ass of myself or was wrong...  Oh wait, I'm never wrong.  Nevermind. ;)

Really wierd how they pop up!  This one is also listed as being submitted on 5/29.  I looked for it earlier, but couldn't find it...now here it is.

I'll give it a read and hope to post a very positive review!

All the "Sin" scripts were prepped on the 29th and timed to 'go live' one after the other every 24 hours.  If you check the main site at around 4:00 pm edt tomorrow you will see the next link go live.

No mystery, just timed so they appear by magic even tho I'm at work.

OK, I've read them all except one, but I'm going to go ahead and post my favorites here and I'll edit it if it changes after reading, Lust - The Portrait.

I have one favorite, but first I'll list the ones I believe to stand out and why.

For most creative use of theme and strong visuals

Reciprocation - Greed - By Andrew Allen

For the cleanest writing overall and creative panache

Invidia - Envy - By P. Cook

For the most memorable and best characters through dialogue

The Tale of Donkey and Trash - Gluttony - By Gary Kohatsu

My personal favorite:

For strong cinematic effects, cultural flair and most potential to market

Dolewaller - Sloth - By Stephen Brown

Congratulations to you all for solid efforts.

Sandra
