Apparently director Neil Marshal is close to signing on to the Robert Rodriguez produced reboot of the popular Predator series.

Marshall has directed such films as "The Descent", "Doomsday", and "Dog Soldiers".

I dont think it's supposed to a reboot so to speak but a continuation of the series. Arnie is even in talks of reprising his role from the original.

The script Robert Rodriguez is using is a reboot. All of the Arnold talk is rumors. Rodriguez has said that he hasn't talked to Arnold once about the project, but he said that anything is possible.

Neil Marshall? Really? Kickass! Excellent choice for the project. Even the bits and pieces I've seen from Doomsday weren't all that bad. Marshall and Rodriguez is also a really interesting pairing.

I don't much care if the third film is a reboot or a continuation nor if Arnold is involved in anyway. He's a governor, after all. Does anyone really think he's gonna take that many months off to rehash an old movie role. Nah. Besides, Predator is and always has been the star of the two films. Not the Govenator.

The original script by Rodriguez included Arnie's character going to the Predator planet to fight in a tournament of sorts.

I don't think the series needs a whole reboot as the first two movies are good. Sure, the second one was only decent, but it's better than most the modern horse shit the studios are putting out.

That's awesome if they have Marshall directing. I've been a fan of his films since Dog Soldiers, so that's good news.

Doomsday was one terrible film. I can only hope it's good!

Looks sweet. But if it's PG-13 like AVP, I swear I will cry myself to sleep on the day of release.

Then again, an R-Rated installment can also be crap -- AVP: Requiem.

So, I understand that this is a direct sequel to Predator, and that it ignores Pred. 2 and the AVP films. Is this correct?

Yeah, from what I can gather that is correct. Predator 2 wasn't the worst movie ever, but it still wasn't a great follow up.

If this is PG13, I'll join you in crying Julio.

Doesn't everyone ignore the AVP fiascos?  :)

The sneak peak doesn't really show enough for me to form an opinion. Don't like the Predator Hounds though - seems wrong somehow. Will wait for the trailer.

According to Wiki, the movie will be R-rated.

Rob, I think those are early concept arts of the hounds. They work really well in the script(meaning they don't seem out of place or anything).

Meh. This was pretty much the same as the sneak peak. Considering that this is basically a remake of The Most Dangerous Game, I do not have insanely high hopes for it. Hope to be pleasantly surprised though.

It looks like a good installment with a solid cast, but I agree, the script could be more original.

Btw. looking over the cast, does anyone know how to pronounce the name "Mahershalalhashbaz Ali" correctly?

It could be interesting, though I wouldn't be overly excited about it. The Descent & Dog Soldiers were decent films.

Rodriquez needs to spread the work about a bit more in his films though. He seems to take on a lot of the work himself since having that home studio of his. Which, don't get me wrong, is admirable but a lot of times the end product suffers as a result.

On a side note in response to the original post, Nimrod Antal (Armored) is directing it. Marshall is no longer.

Yeah, I knew Marshall was no longer directing. Antal also did Vacancy, which I thought was pretty decent.

As for why this movie is so much like the original, I think it's because every time they tried to make one different they turned out horrible(Predator 2 and both AVP films).

True. Predator 2 was pretty poor but looking back at it now it doesn't seem all bad whn comparing it to the inbred whore's twin abortions that were AVP & AVP Requiem.

The original is still badass.

I didn't think the second was bad at all, and I really enjoyed its look at the suffocating violence of LA. People seem to be undervaluing the importance of Arnie in the first, though. I really don't think any action star of that time would've suited the role like he did, and even now, I don't see anyone capable of bringing what he did to the role. Perfect person for the script, at the right time. This film is trading off that slice of luck, and I don't see enough in the predator, let alone multiples, to carry this through.

So, I am underwhelmed by the whole thing right now, but that could mean a surprise, which I hope is the case. Aronofsky on the 'Robo' remake is also dicey ground. Two classics of the '80s being remade/rebooted/re-whatever is.. risky business.

This isn't a remake Andrew. It's a sequel. And if it has the same ending as the script... Arnold will return!

Remake, or whatever, it has little artistic merit in being made. Obviously the origin of this is commercial, and yet the main reason for it being a success in the first place is not there. Arnie returning - while admittedly fairly cool - is cashing in on why the series is memorable, but maybe I am a pessimist.

I hope we don't see another shite CGI Arnie.

The Russian Bear must survive!!!

Sorry jeff, didn't get to watch it. The print came in late and i barely had time to build it. Will definetly be seeing it tomorrow and will be sure to share my opinion. It currently has an 80% on rottentomatoes though, so thats gotta mean something. I really hope people go out and see this movie, as it has obviously been made for the fans.
