Before I start this review, I want to apologize for not being on SS that much lately. I have been really sick and haven't even bothered to write any scripts. I will try to come on a lot more.

Anyway, so yesterday since I was sick, I decided to go rent a movie. I saw Grey Gardens and remember hearing great things about it. I rented it, got home, and put it in my DVD player.

When I was a little kid, I used to have a list of "The most annoying people in the world." It was a list where I put names of people who I hated and thought were annoying. If only that wish was still alive. Edith and Little Edie are, perhaps, the most annoying people I have ever met on the planet.

Grey Gardens is basically a 100 minute film of women talking. Talking about what? Well, I don't really know. I had no clue what was going on. I started to get a headache at the 1 hour mark and decided to turn it off and watch the rest later. By the end of the film, I didn't learn anything, except that the 2 women in the film must have been hated by everyone.

The whole film felt like Pink Flamingos to me (and that is a BAD thing). Also, the editing in Grey Gardens is pretty poor. The film is just composed of footage. No talking, no teaching us, just 2 talking women. Grey Gardens wins for the worst documentary and worst editied film of all time.

This was a horrible experience. I can't imagine living with Edith and Little Edith in real life.

I heard that a film with actors was made about real gardens, but I don't plan to see it. If I want to see women talk about random things, I will watch a David Lynch film.

I am confused to see that imdb has this film at a 7.8. I can't imagine anyone wanting to watch this film ever again. These 2 women are just so annoying, and I was sick through the whole horrible experience.

Overall: 1/10 - one of the worst films/documentaries of all time.

Grey Gardens is a permanent staple in my top 10 list of worst movies ever made. Watching it is literally a painful experience and I'm extremely resentful that I've been forced to see it sooo many times in film school. I don't care that it revolutionized documentary. There's plenty more cinema verite docs out there. The fact is these people (Edith and Little Edith) are completely worthless. Rich beyond their means and yet all they do is fight and live like pigs. Do people really care? Really? Just goes to show how the craft alone cannot make an interesting film, despite what pretentious experimental filmmakers have thought for as long as film's been around.

Geez James, I feel bad that you had to watch Grey Gardens so many times in film school. I can't imagine the pain you went through. I really don't see why some people like the film. I thought I was the only one. When I posted this I was sure people were going to say how great it was and all, but I guess I was wrong.
