Click here for the E-Store where you can purchase my book

Click here for the same on Amazon.com

And even on the Kindle, if you're so inclined

So George has been a little busy lately. After much writing and rewriting (and rewriting and rewriting and rewriting and rewriting and rewriting) and of course reading, my book is now available for public consumption. It finally worked out to 328 pages. At present, it is only on the publishing site's e-store, but within the next couple of weeks, it'll be out on Amazon too.

If you've read the screenplay (which is still on SimplyScripts), the book runs a bit different in several places where I've corrected some oversights that you make when you don't consider the whole world the character live in. There are also some pictures of the some things that I thought would be interesting to display (mostly the language). And the detail of the world is far more in-depth (and even educational) than the script.

I finally decided the genre is science fiction and adventure, based on the content and how everything fits together. So if you feel so inclined to get a book at some point, you can pick this one up. People have really enjoyed the scripts and the novel is a further extension of that. To those who did read and comment on the script, you helped make the novel what it is.

And of course, word of mouth is the best advertiser, so if you read it and enjoy it, please tell everyone and even share it. I'll let everyone know when the Amazon page is up.

For a little while, you can use the discount code of H63WMLZU on the Createspace e-store only to get 15% off the purchase price. The discount code will not apply to Amazon, since it's a different sales channel.

Shameless plug ended.

The Fempiror Chronicles, The Initiation of David by George WillsonAuthor George Willson has graciously allowed SimplyScripts readers an exclusive sneek peek of his breakthrough novel, The Fempiror Chronicles: The Initiation of David.

In 1775, at the age of 17, David Taylor is thrust into this new world of the Fempiror when he disobeys a decree against being out at night to be with his beloved, Beth. Now, he is forced to follow a new set of laws - to protect humanity from the dark side of the Fempiror race.

The Fempiror*  are a race created for a war in a country long forgotten. Like a science experiment gone awry, they share an incurable condition that gives them superior speed, strength, and lifespan, but sacrifices a life in the sun and a sense of normalcy with the rest of humanity.

Read the prologue and first chapter, free (pdf format).

The entire novel is available at CreateSpace and Amazon.com

*Fempiror: pronounced fem-PEER-or

Is this self published?

Splendid.  Now, will we get an actual hold-it-in-your-hand copy, or is this, like, an e-copy that we download?  I will be less enthusiastic about the latter.

And where is the cover?  I would like to see the cover art.  Did you do it yourself?

I'm going to say it is a physical copy as it has "Shipping" rates, you know?

I was trying to go through checkout to see shipping to Canada and you have to sign up. I did and wow wow wow that shipping price is nuts.

26 for economy and 41 for standard. I have noticed a hike in American online stores hiking up shipping but this takes the cake.

Seriously? $26 for shipping. Dude. Maybe we'll work something out because I could ship that thing first class for $6.

And it is a physical copy, and for all intents and purposes, it is self-published (I have to wonder if that changes your perception). The cover art will show up within 5 days. I just announced it as soon as it was available.

But this is an actual, physical book. It is not an e-book (unless you want an e-book, then there will be a Kindle version).

GW,

I shall be buying. Congratulations for if nothing else, your tenacity. You're a hell of a writer George. I hope someone with a fat wallet realises that soon.

Thanks, rendezvous. My hope, learning the rather exorbitant international shipping rates from Createspace, that when it comes up on Amazon, the rates are better, though one can never guarantee such a thing.

And I'm hoping for the fat wallet person as well. Sometimes, that tenacity has to come first, though.

Hey George,

The book looks great!   ;D

One step closer to having a big shot take notice of the script.

I'll be buying a copy, too.

Thanks Cindy. Yeah, the script will need a major rewrite at some point. I noticed all kinds of goofy stuff during this process...

Looks interesting. Read the preview, very well written, interesting, reading it it makes me feel like I'm in the world of Fable (the videogame, the only video game I think is worth a damn to play). I'll make sure to buy a copy when it comes out on Amazon.

best of luck to you,
Xavier

Good. I like the, like Xavier said, the sense of being in the sort-of Fable like world. Your writing is simple and keeps you reading, the first pages were great and maybe in the future when I'm not paying bills and school stuff and buying food, I'll pick up a copy.

Self publishing is way cool and I didn't realise it was so easily available. Hmm, something to look into one day.

I remember reading this script years ago and not being all that fussed about it (can't recall why) but I'm willing to have another go as it may be better suited to the novel format.

I read a lot of fantasy books in my lunch break at work. Most of the published stuff is junk. So I'm willing to give something a go that is outside the world of big publishers. I also buy a lot stuff from Amazon so next time I buy my next batch of graphic novels and DVDs I would love to add your book to the list so I got something to read at work.

Please keep us up to date when the book is available on Amazon

I'll buy a copy when it hits Amazon. Unfortunately, I won't be able to read it until next summer because I can't read novels unless I'm on a long plane journey or on a sunny Spanish beach. I will read it, however, doesn't matter how long it will take me.

I will keep you all up to date as to when it shows up on Amazon in its entirety. Thanks for the support everyone.

And yes, Createspace makes it very easy. Actually, it makes it too easy. You can literally write garbage and put it out there. They review it for content on the surface, but they don't go that in-depth, I imagine. I uploaded the final draft at 11pm, and it was approved by 1pm the next day.

I didn't want to post garbage, however, so I wrote and rewrote and reread and then had my wife read it (and contrary to popular belief, wives aren't like friends who are afraid to upset you -- I told mine to be harsh...and she was...oh, she was) and while she was reading, I reread it and further rewrote it based on my findings and her findings, added a whole chapter, rewrote several of them, ordered the first proof, read it, rewrote some stuff, she read the first proof, I rewrote more stuff, she gave more comments, I found more typos, rewrote more stuff, and then ran the Word spelling and grammar checker three times before reading it yet again, so despite the apparent ease in doing it, I worked on this for nine months before deeming it "done." I have 6 drafts backed up.

All so I was posting the best that this story could be and not total garbage. I'm very encouraged by the early comments on the chapters Don posted.

Two things now...

First, I thought I'd throw this out for my SS people.

For a little while, you can use the discount code of 8ZGPZVZ5 on the Createspace e-store only to get a dollar off the purchase price of the book. The discount code will not apply to Amazon, since it's a different sales channel.

Second, if you preferred Amazon, the book is now available on Amazon.com. You can click here or just go out there and search for either fempiror or my name and you'll find it. Sorry, can't do a discount on Amazon, but hey, it's eligible for Super Saver Shipping.

To easy. already added the book to my Amazon shopping cart. As soon as I save up enough money to buy all the DVD and graphic novels I want that book will be as good as mine.

Look forward to reading it.

I put it in my shopping cart as well. As soon as I scrape together the funds, it's mine. I only wish it didn't take about six hundred years for Amazon to deliver to this part of the world...

Congrats on the publication, George!

Thanks all. Appreciate the support, not to mention the reads on the script version over the years. All that feedback was invaluable.

Just a update for the technophiles of the world. You can now download my book to the Kindle electronic book reader thingie. And if you happen to have an iPhone, I understand there is a Kindle app that allows you to download it to your iPhone as well. I prefer the hard copy myself, but in case you dont...

Thanks Bre. Appreciate it. I hope you enjoy it.

On another note, I have already had someone who is only halfway though it "make sure" I'm writing another one. I assured him that I'm in process and he'll learn the title of the next one on the final page... It was another feel good moment.

I hear it's selling well George, congrats buddy.
Posted by: George Willson, September 4th, 2009, 9:19pm; Reply: 25
It seems to be off to a decent start, anyway. Today, I watched go from a sales rank around 101,000 down to 57,000 and now back up to 138,000. Weird ping pong action, but it only having been a couple weeks, I think it's doing fairly well. Though it coming down into 5 figures was exciting. I'm crossing my fingers for some positive word of mouth, which is where it will start to pick up.

I'm still holding my breath and hoping people like it enough to give it positive word of mouth...

Thanks Sandra.

Really, we must look into finishing Love and Fresh Air at some point. I just have to get a couple of other projects out of the way to free up some time.
