Thankfully, we accepted an offer on our house 24 hours before all of this crap started.

I think it was April or May 2007 and we had a hail storm with some stones the size of golf balls.

It ripped apart people's siding and roofs. In the end, everyone was blessed with pretty much free work from the insurance claims. And the company's doing the work were blessed with lots of work.

Well, the rain has stopped for a little while. Most of the flooding has gone down. Roads are opening back up. I've heard six people died, including a toddler, but I'm not sure. The death count keeps changing.

This is the (only) entrance to our neighborhood. We were stuck for a while. Notice the floating window on the right.

This is our next-door neighbor's house. Their basement had about a foot of water in it, but that's okay because the owner (not the lady in the picture) is a real bitch.

I don't get these photos, there's something missing? Whenever we get floods in England there's always someone in a fecking rubber boat trying to save their TV!

I took training for the Community Emergency Response Team several yeas ago. Part of the training was what to do in case of a flood. One of the volunteers asked he instructor why there were no flood emergency routes in our neighborhood (the tams are very local).

The instructor pointed out that we live only a few blocks from the highest point in New York City. If we needed to evacuate because of flooding, there would be no place to go.
