I bought this film today, not knowing what to expect. I saw that it had horrible reviews, but decided to take a chance and buy it since it cost hardly any money. It was a huge mistake.

Freakshow is one of those films that really doesn't deliver anything, expect gratuitous violence for no reason at all. The story revolves around some thieves who plan to get all the money froma  circus they are hiding out at. The actress main woman thief is one of the worst actresses in the history if film. Never before have I seen such a bad piece of acting in my life. This isn't saying that the rest of the actors are good, they aren't, but the girl is the worst.

The violence in this film is equivalent to a snuff film. It is not done in a fashionable way at all. The last 15 minutes of this film is very hard to watch. So hard, that, for the first time, I had to fast forward to the very end because I just couldn't take it.

While the end of this film is one of the best endings in horror I have ever seen, the rest of the film sucks a lot. There is no reason anyone has to see this film, unless you want to see a cruel and sick ending.

Though this film was horrible, there were a few things I liked about it. All the songs used in the film (especially "Mary took the calves to the daily show") worked very well. The atmosphere of the film also worked very nicely too. The use of real freaks kinda worked in some scenes, but in other scenes they didn't rally do anything except shock me.

One thing I want to add is that I think a lot of the hate towards this film is due to the fact that people see it as a remake of Tod Brownings "Freaks" (one of my favorite films of all time). While this film has deformed people in it, I don't see it as a remake at all. The plot is totally different than Tod Brownings version, and this is a straight up horror film. Brownings was mainly a drama (at least in my eyes).

Overall: This is not a film you have to see anytime soon. If you can find it for a low price and really want to see it badly, then buy it. But don't spend too much money on this film. It is nothing that you will care to watch again. I would give it a 4/10.

I think we musta seen two different films... I didn't see the violence in this movie as anything but tame, boring and drawn out.  The acting, yes, is bad... But by far not the worst I've seen.  Blood Lake and countless others like Scalps come to mind here.  The movie is absolute ballz, but I think you're giving it more credit than it deserves; as it has next to no killing in it.... Well, save for the last 20 min when the theives get killed off.

The violence is pretty tame and boring, but it is still horribly disgusting to watch. The violence doesn't really start until the first hour or so, but when it does begin, it is very gory. I had a hard time watching the entire film, but the gore in general was just sickening.

I agree that there is far worst acting in films than this one, but the girl in particular was one of the worst performances I have ever seen. The rest of the actors were bad, but never horrible like the actress playing the girl.

Maybe I am giving it more credit than it deserves, I don't know. Nothing happens in the first hour of the film except for talking and nudity. Still, when the violence comes, it comes hard. I can understand how you find the violence tame, but what about the last few minutes with the girl thief? That did not seem tame at all, in my opinion.
