Anyone read these yet?  I just read them back to back.  Started with the Steve Zallian version.  I thought I hated it until I read the Soderburgh version.  The Zallian version isn't bad.  It's really overwritten, he doesn't say anything in a sentence that he can't say in two paragraphs.  And if you don't like unfilmables, this is not for you!  I'm still not sure how a former college baseball player watches a game, and if it's any different than how I watch a game.  But it is fiarly well put together and the characters are fairly interesting.

The Soderburgh version just pretty much sucks.  He does cut down on all the overwriting, but in the process he cuts doen on any drama, and makes the characters completely bland.

I haven't read the book, but it's interesting to see how differently they deal with the source material.  The differences are pretty big in someplaces, and my guess is Zallian is the one who strayed from the truth, because his version is much more interesting.

Don's Edit: Both versions of Moneyball can be found here.

I haven't read the scripts but the book is great. But i'm not sure how a film would work - its more like documentary subject matter, as the book is about baseball as a whole.

I loved the book, but I'm a big baseball fan. I can't see how this would translate into a movie that anyone but hard-core "seamheads" would enjoy. I guess Brad Pitt could solve that problem, though.

There is no happy ending. Heck, there's no real ending at all. I agree that it would be a good documentary subject, but it seems more like something Bob Costas should tackle. And Steven Soderberg's script sucks!
