Question. Where are you guys getting these sick ass banners for all your scripts/sites/whatever to put in your sigs? Do you make them yourselves or does everyone have a friend who's really good at Photoshop? I'm no wizard myself. Are they hard to make? Secondly, how do you actually put them into the sigs?

Trying to find a better way to pimp scripts than just using colors and bold typeface.

I don't even know how to include my scripts in my sig.  How's that for a stupid question?

Jeff, next time you post, look at all those buttons up top before you post.

The same buttons are active when you mess with your signature.

"Preview" your post instead of actually posting it and see what those buttons do.

Putting a link in your signature is easy -- just like a post.

Like James, however, I too would be interested in those bad-ass banners.

Somebody take a few minutes to type us up a tutorial, eh?

Upload the image to an image host such as Photobucket (what I use). Then go to "member center" on the top of this page, then to "signature" (you probably know this part) and enter the URL in the signature box using the link provided on Photobucket (or whatever) with around it.

As far as making banners, I guess you would Photoshop or MS Paint or some other such image maker. I am willing and able to make banners for you guys, just let me know what you want.

Yeah, I do know all that stuff, Pete, but thanks.

It is the sizing of the banner that I have trouble with.

What dimensions are used?  Is there something specific to make them fit so well?

Yeah, I figured *you* would. :) But others...

I'm not sure of dimensions. Let me play around in PS and see what works. I'll get back to you shortly.

I can be pretty stupid, Bert, when it comes to technical stuff, even when it's very simple.  Sometimes, it's actually shocking how stupid I can be...or just am.

I'm not really sure what you mean about these "buttons".  I'll try and figure it out.

While on the subject of sigs, any suggestions on what to do after your tiny url's are exhausted?

Post the links to all of your scripts here and paste a link to your post in your sig (make sure you include the number of your post in the url). That link can stay in your sig forever but you can still choose one or two scripts to highlight from time to time.

Okay, I threw together a banner using the poster I made for my old OWC entry (in my sig now). It's 500 pixels wide x 175 pixels tall. Of course, that can be changed according to tastes.

Also, I forgot to mention. In order for the image to link to your script you have to do this:

But without the asterisks and spaces.

My sigs a trade secret. You have to look at the code to figure out how it's done.

But i find the perfect height for a signature is 145px.  Anything larger looks garish.

length should be between 400px and 500px, though you could probably get away with larger but it wouldn't work on the smallest resolutions.

Thanks James, nice idea. The tiny urls only let you reduce so many links.

Haha....don't flatter yourself, Jeff.  Trust me.  It is not shocking at all.

I kid.  Hit "More Post Options" instead of "Post".  You do not see all those buttons when you post?  For Bold and Italic and one that looks like a little picture?  There are more than a dozen -- right above the box you type in.  Hover your mouse over them and text below the buttons will tell you what the do.

I do not want your sig.  I hate your sig haha.  I like you, though.

Thanks for the tips, Cornetto and Pete.  Perhaps I will try one when I am ready to post my SoulShadows episode.

I revoked his "more post options" rights.

I think the rather large banner ones are an eyesore.

Cornetto has or had a scrolling one which I think used the space well.

It used to scroll but people got jealous of how long it was, so I had to trim it off.

Thanks a bunch, dude! I currently don't have Photoshop. My laptop is only four months old. I downloaded a mediocre Paint ripoff and messed around a little bit. The result is in my sig. Not outstanding but I figure practice makes perfect.

Thanks again, dude!

You're welcome, glad I could help. That sig is a good start!

I think I remember Don asking everyone at some point not to post banners that exceeds 200 x 700 (or something like that).

Yeah. I liked the scrolling signature he had. The first time I came across it it freaked me out. I was scrolling through a thread and got momentarily stuck on his sig. I was like WTF?

I also like Rendevous' changing avatar. How would you do that?

I think it's made as a .gif file, probably in some Photoshop'ish program.

Hey, I think I almost got it.

Not as good as some, but that will come with practice, I suppose.

Anyways, just feeding the hype machine a little -- and this thread seemed as good as any.

For those playing with this themselves, my dimensions were 145 x 800 pixels.

Looks good, Bert!  Looking forward to it, too.  Was very underwhelmed with the last Soul Shadows entry.

Wish I had a clue how to do these things, but I'm not even going to try and fuck with it.  Some tricks, this old dog ain't gonna be learnin'.

I agree with Jeff, the last one was a dud....

You could give a trusted mod/member access to your account and let them do it for you. Then change your password once it's done.

A very good idea, Bach.  I'll look into it.

Thanks!

My dog's not young. But he'd be learning. And fast when there's reward involved.

You just need to play with the 'more post options' button then the preview one. It shows you how the rest of the internet will see it before you post.

Quite rewarding.

Meh. They're hard to look at. Yes, on an advertising/promotion kind of thing, it's good to see - it's out there, easy to see. One click and you're there.

Simply create a signature, upload it onto photobucket (or tinypic)

It's when you actually INCLUDE the code of your sig into your signature box on here, you need to use a link to link your stuff.

You get the link, and it's something like, adding the link AND the code to your signature together.

Something like that. I remember doing it when I was all into the whole larger-the-signature-the-cooler-I-am thing.

For the record, this wasn't jealousy. I use the scroll wheel on my mouse to zip through pages, but when I hit Cornetto's sig, it stopped everything and I ended up scrolling through his signature. It was terribly annoying. So if you miss Cornetto's scrolling signature, I was at least one person who begged him to remove the scrolling bit...

Why not, like, create advertisments on youtube and upload them onto your siganture instead of doing, like, signatures and sht?

"TWO WOMAN REALISE THEY'RE MAN IS A CHEATING IDIOT!

BUT THINGS SOON TURN SOUR, AS THEY REALISE THE MAN IS ACTUALLY AN ALIEN!

THE WRITER FROM ----- AND ------2 COMES BACK

TO SURPRISE YOU MORE!

[person's name on here]"

Seriously. I see that as the future for this site.

This feels a bit like a slam -- whether you meant it that way or not.

Frankly, there are some very skilled graphics folks on this board who have, in the past, fashioned signatures that border on artwork.  Mine is somewhat lame by comparison, but then, it is my first attempt.

It is simply another form of artistic expression on a board of creative types.

We have had animated signatures before -- and it is so annoying that people have stopped doing them.  Everyone complains.

Yeah, I know. It would be awful.

Glad this place has a bit of maturity about it. None of those flashing signatures that want attention...
