I hate comedy scripts. I loathe rom coms with a passion because 95% of them end the same way and are usually about the same thing and are more often then not formulaic.

I know this has been out for sometime but this is what a comedy should be like in my book. It's odd, it's slightly disturbing but boy is it poignant and original. This is what you hope for everytime you read a script, something that doesn't just try to entertain you but something that is about well... something. :) :)

It's great that you liked the script, but it would be a good idea to include more detail in your reviews. This one and the one you posted below are only a couple sentences each and don't actually include any information at all.

Try giving a rundown of what the story is about, the characters, what you liked and didn't like about the script etc. Just something that has a bit more depth to it other than 'I liked it'.

hOh, I thought this was more of a recommend.

The Beaver by Kyle Killen - is about depressed man that turns to a beaver puppet to deal with the problems that he can't confront.  

The writing style is sparse and even though the tone is comedic it still manages to pull off those major dramatic beats  in an organic way.


I don't really want to spoil it for anyone that hasn't read it yet. This was on last years black list.

Loved this script.  So upset that Mel Gibson's doing it instead of Steve Carrell, who it seemed was written for.

I envisaged Jim Carrey as being tailor made for the role of Walter. Particularly the fight with the Beaver which mirrors the pen scene in Liar Liar (as its even name dropped during the scene in the prose on the draft I read). Maybe this role was a bit too close to Fletcher's for Carrey to take on.
