More Hong Kong Horror.

Okay, this one isn't really a horror film though it does explore that genre and well enough to make you jump.   But mostly it's a psychological thriller and an excellent one at that.

It's about a suicidal girl who can see dead people.  It explores the true nature of ghosts theme.    The  girl doesn't have any close family in Hong Kong so her cousin recommends a psychiatrist.  He takes a special interest in her case even to the point where ethics becomes a concern as they fall in love.  And, maintaining a professional distance, he cures her.

Then they can date and soon move in with one another and this is when the film takes a strange turn and no longer is about the girl but instead focusses on the doctor.  And that's one of the things I really liked about this film. I had no idea where it was going to go.  It kept changing - even scenes that were shown earlier change as you become more aware of the doctor's strangeness and less concerned about the cured girl.

One of the more interesting pieces of trivia about this film is that the guy who played the doctor died a year later in a way that strangely echoed the film.

I highly recommend this film.
