So I have a town referenced in a store that's in a German speaking area. In all my cleverness, I thought I would just name it something to the effect of Hope City, so I did my due diligence and Googled the translation of the word hope and came up with Hoffen (the verb) and Hoffnung (the noun). Since I was pairing it with Stadt, I thought Hoffenstadt rolled off the tongue a little better, but I want to know what anyone who actually speaks German thinks. I did a free machine translation of "hope city" and it came back with "Hoffen Sie Stadt", which gave me a little Hoffnung, but I still gotta ask. Is Hoffenstadt ok for a city name or does it say "stupid English speaker doesn't know his German"?

I would go with Hoffenstadt - as you say, it rolls better. There's already a German town called Hoffenheim, so Hoffenstadt wouldn't be way off.
