It's too late for me to write a full review.  Might tackle one in the morning.

This is one of the best blockbusters to come out of Hollywood in a long time.  A good portion of its charm is in how closely it follows the template set by the original -- and therefore that it contains an actual real story that is told well -- but credit is due to director Zwart and the majority of the cast as well.  Jaden Smith, a talented actor if somewhat derivative in style (I'm sure you can guess of whose) looks set to start his career as an actor, and Jackie Chan...well, heck, he's Jackie Chan.

Good film for screenwriters to study.  Not very tight but all the elements needed for a successful blockbuster are encompassed here.  Problem is, there's overkill on some of them.

What I felt was really special in this film was a solid respect for kung fu and Chinese culture.  Also nice to see a protagonist whom easily could have been any race and just happened to be African.  Very respectful film in a lot of ways.  A local reviewer complained of racism in the film -- the American kid comes to China and beats all the Chinese kids at a martial art born of their own culture.  This reviewer is a moron.  This film is about the right way and the wrong way to live life.

Very inspiring and every bit as exciting as the original.  Aside from being overlong and containing a few terrible soundtrack choices, I'd call this an almost-perfect blockbuster.  See it!

I was very impressed with Jaden and his karate. Makes me want to go and practice my katas. :-)

What's up with the 5.9 rating on IMDB? This was much better than the reviews led me to believe. It was an advanced screening in our cinema and it was nowhere near sold out, so I don't know if it will do much box office business here, but it's one of the most entertaining films I've seen this summer.

Minor complaints, like the jacket on/jacket off stuff going on a few minutes more than it should. It's also a bit long and it takes Jackie Chan too long to actually start learning the boy some kung fu. It also confused me why his mother was alright with him learning kung fu and fighting in a tournament. I mean, she never once questioned this. I think it would have worked better if she was against the idea from the start but then allowed him when she noticed he started hanging his jacket up instead of throwing it on the floor!

Overall, loved the training scenes, fight scenes were completely awesome. Jackie Chan is still the man. Jaden Smith wasn't half as annoying as I thought he would be. 8/10
