There are two good things about The Last Airbender:

1.  The score.

2.  After this and The Happening, M. Night will hopefully be forced to do a really low-budget film, which will hopefully get his directing back on track.  On the other hand, Airbender isn't turning out to be the flop it was expected -- and richly deserved -- to be.

The Last Airbender is an absolutely terrible film.  Dialogue, structure, cinematography, production design -- almost everything is bottom of the barrel.  M. Night squanders his massive budget by shooting the sets to make them look ugly, shooting the technically amazing action to look boring, and apparently forgetting to direct the poor actors that he chose to cast.  The dialogue is painful to listen to, and the recent memory of the immaculately scripted, certainly not dumbed-down Toy Story 3 strips Airbender of any chance at a "just-a-kid's-movie" defense.  As if the dialogue weren't bad enough by itself, the actors are uniformly awful.

There are a number of great ideas in the film, many of which I presume are directly from the show, but they are systematically buried underneath incredibly bad filmmaking.  For those that believe Shyamalan is a brilliant director -- and I am one such person -- there is not a single moment here that displays any of his past skill.

Avoid at all costs.

I don't think this is quite as bad as critics are saying. Is it good, no. But it's not the worst movie of the year( that title goes to Jonah Hex, BLEH). For me the writing is what killed this. The dialog was TERRIBLE. Just because it's based off an anime doesn't meanm it has to sound like one. On the plus side the action and special effects where pretty great, but again they are marred by too many missteps. What was up with the terrible dream sequences!? They looked like a student film. Easily one of the most disappointing movies of the year, and maybe the decade.

This reminded me of the computer games that they turn into very bad movies. It just felt like that for some reason, I don't know why as it is based on some TV show. The 3D effects were terrible, nothing like the fire and water that was flying out of the screen in the UK adverts. I honestly now feel bad for falling asleep during the new Cats and Dogs movie last week.

Has beaten Black Death to be the worst movie of the year for me so far. Terrible.
