Hi guys. I know I may go on about the Beatles just a bit -  ;) - and feel free to ignore this if you are over them!!!

Dunno how many of you have ever seen their second movie, 'Help', directed by Richard Lester (as was their first, 'A Hard Day's Night'). Maybe some of the 'older' SS crew and the Brits i guess.

Anyway, I hadn't seen the film for ages, so got the deluxe DVDfrom the library. It has a booklet with it, with text written by Martin Scorcese, of all People! He talks about the cutting edge film making of Lester - for 1965 - and how it was a blueprint for comedy afterward. Scorcese reckons a scene where John dials a phone number for ages and it calls the other Beatles who are asleep in the same room, as one of movie history's all time deadpan comedy moments!

In the 'making of' doco on the DVD, Lester says how he received a certificate in the 90's from MTV, saying he was officially the 'Father of MTV; many of the smash cuts used in Help paved the way for music videos as a whole. The Beatles were stoned every day at this period of their life, and it shows in 'Help". Many scenes had to cut because the boys were laughing too much!!!

My son isn't 4 yet, and has watched the film about 4 times! The first couplehe just sat there taking it in. Now he sings along with the songs!

It looks a little dated of course, being 45 years old, but the Beatles - as always - look as cool as ever (sorry, but I may be biased). Anyone who hasn't seen it may enjoy the camera work and different comedy in it.
