I just came back from a screening of Love & Other Drugs and I definitely liked it so don't get me wrong but I really thought it would bring more to the table. If you haven't seen the trailer, I'd suggest not watching it, it really plots out the movie for you and definitely makes some of the key scenes lose their impact. I remember hearing rumors of Oscar buzz around this movie during the first release of the trailer, I don't think that's the case with this one though. Jake and Anne both do great jobs and the movie does hit above sub par for the romcom genre but it just doesn't have that punch that I was expecting. I was hoping this movie would follow the same vein as Up In The Air, but unfortunately it becomes rather cliche at points. The soundtrack is good if you like 90's music, you'll love it, I found the ending song really wasn't fitting though, I'm just a music in movie junkie though, I'm sure no one else will even second guess it. But there's lots of good laughs to be had and the side characters work well for the movie. It's refreshing to see a movie of this genre take the R-rated route and doesn't hold back with it, (there's a lot of Anne) and it's a movie that is a lot more mature than you might expect from the genre. Overall, it is a step up for the romcom movie, I think I just had expectations of something greater, the cast and everything is great, the script is where it could have been developed more. I'd definitely recommend it if you like these types of movies and it certainly delivers more than most will expect but I found there was more potential that it lacked something.
