This Aussie film is definitely reminiscent of Descent.  However, it's not quite the same movie.  It follows a group of twenty somethings camping in the Australian wilderness while searching for a cave.  They find the cave and awaken something that's been dormant inside.  Yeah, usual story, fairly usual characters, and even some stupid behaviour on their part but in a way that's  the fun of this movie.

Because even though it has some cliches it manages to rise above them with a bit of a creative twist, some pretty gory gore, and general creepiness.  I squirmed during parts of this movie.

I'm recommending this but I should warn you that some people really didn't like this film.   Only I don't agree with them.   For example, people said the acting was bad.  I didn't really see it and that's something I usually see first.   I actually thought the acting was pretty good.  Second a lot of people said it was a badly made film.  Again, I didn't see that.  I saw a pretty good film put together on a lower budget.  I didn't see much of an issue with how the filmmaker put it together.

That isn't to say I didn't have some issues with the film.  There were a couple of scenes where people did things that were just a bit too stupid - especially stupid if you are an Australian in the wilderness - like swimming in a Billabong in the dark in NT - crocodile territory.  There's also a couple of silly character arcs.

But overall, I liked it and recommend it if you're looking for a slightly different take on a Descent type story.
