Did I miss something or am I blind?  I no longer see Balt's script anywhere in the shorts section.

Where'd it go?

What happened?

Quoted from Baltis' signature

"Take the amateur opinion of your work... grin, bare it and nod.  Then send it to a pro at cost -- Only then will you truly know how your work stacks up."

(Taking a loooooooooooong break from the site to focus on contest and travel.)

I don't think he liked the negative comments he received.

Oh boy...unreal.  I was afraid of that.

When did this all go down?  Was there any feedback after Wonkavite's?  That's the last I saw and I didn't see any response from Balt.

Oh God.  Please, please, *please* don't tell me I'm responsible for this.

I'm seriously looking forward to reading other Balt scripts...despite my lukewarm reaction to that particular one.

He does that.  Last time he posted a script he and the script disappeared for a while afterwards.  It's normal behaviour for him.  I wouldn't go feeling it was your fault.

I think even if you are a veteran, established writer, if you post, you better expect to get savaged to some degree. It's the nature of the beast. And there is one thing that is far, far, far worse than being savaged. And that is getting no comments. Take the criticism, use it where it helps, improve your script. Then write another!

Balt was one of the people, here, you wanted criticism from.  He was tough and outspoken.

I will miss the fellow.

Yep, I'll miss him as well.  I always would come rigth out and ask him for a read and feedback.

Too bad he bolted again.

Yeah, lets all hold a candle-lit vigil for the guy.

No conspiracy.  The script was removed at the request of the writer.

As you can see in his sig

(Taking a loooooooooooong break from the site to focus on contest and travel.)

You can still pm him.  He checks in nearly daily.

Don

Update:  stop pm'ing me.  I know he checks in because I have this user screen that shows me who is on the board regardless of whether you are signed in or not and regardless of your 'invisibility' settings.  I'm sure he is enjoying reading this.

The Rendevous we all remember was just an alter ego.   A ruse.  Much like Andy Kaufman's Tony Clifton.   So from that aspect he wasn't such an a-hole, after all.   Quite clever actually.   Annoying -- but still clever.

The guy is out spoken for sure, as are you! And the site is all the better for that. I think he's more of an aquired taste. I have only come across one person who has gone out of their way to introduce themself as a grade A asshole. I'm sure Balt will be back.

Too bad. I read the first 17 pages and thought it was pretty good. I still have it so I guess I'll send my comments in a pm. Whether he checks in or not.  :-/

I wish I had known he was going to yank the script as I have Red Sun, Gabe's Circus script and a couple of shorts to read by writers that are here still...

I didn't really have a problem with him. He was tame this go around compared to the old days and I admit to often finding him amusing. Didn't care much for the comment that a writer should ignore the comments they get here at SS though. That was a bit low. Except comments from Bert and Phil...they are apparently very special in his eyes.

What happened to NOT talking about posters when they are not here to defend themselves???

This whole thread reminds me of another...

Any takers?

Balt, you big Pussy. Write a script, post it and be man enough to take your hits...

That's a bit different.  We don't talk about people who are banned because they can't respond.  However, when you leave of your own will then you're fair game.

I echo Pia's sentiment.
I was saving, the twin 30+ page scripts for this weekend to tackle.
Had I known I would have jumped on it to add to the script debate.
I missed the comment about SS opinions not mattering, sans B & P.
All I caught was the "amateur opinions" thing.
I kinda took that as, "How much stock can you put into opinions that can't pay you?"
At some point, you have to address saleability. I can understand that.
Perhaps I was too generous in my interpretation.

I think he spent more time hyping the script that it was available to read.
He knows how to pour gasoline on a fire and keep threads lively. Oh well.

E.D.

P.S. I have to chuckle at a disappearing script called, "No Such Thing". :P

Balt's a very talented writer, as is Ren. Both of them are unique talents.

Had just written out a review for Balt yesterday and noticed 'NST' had been removed. Thanks for confirming my inkling Balt was taking a sabbatical. Is probably what Ren is doing too.

Hope they're both back soon. :)

Man, I really hate doing this but the air has to be cleared so "apparently" you all can get some sleep...

1st -- The script was a 1st draft, I sent Don a second draft but asked him in PM not to post it as I was getting feedback from Bert on what "he" thought could be tighter.

2nd - I wrote that draft in 1 week.  ONE.  All of it.

3rd -- I only posted it because Mike (screenrider) and I had agreed in doing so.

4th -- I told Don in PM I was very appreciative of the feedback and that posting the 2nd draft I had sent him would yield no "NEW" reads.  Thus it wouldn't be of any benefit to me.

5th -- I always leave the site around this time of the year for a few months.  It's what I do.  I always do it.  If Don doesn't ban me, I leave on my own accord.  This can be proven by a simple look back on my posting history.

6th -- There is no bad blood here with any of you all.  I'm not here for friends.  I'm not here to be pal's with any of you... I do respect Don a great deal for what he does for you, me and anyone else willing to give the site their time and attention.

7th -- I removed the script because I wasn't going to be around to comment on the feedback.  I asked him to remove it so you all weren't wasting your time in reading and reviewing it.

--
I also respect Phil and Bert and Pia and many of the other posters opinions.  If I didn't I wouldn't be here on the site.  That's just not me.  If I don't like something I tell you and move on.  I might not care or agree with the opinions expressed, but I respect them none the less.

And finally, I leave the boards when I feel I need to reinvent myself or to experience other outlets.  I'm a musician first and foremost.  When I'm here 24 hours  day bitching and arguing over the why's and how's of this and or that I feel unproductive sometimes.

I've got some light travel coming up -- My anniversary cruise with my wife.  My band and I are playing in Colorado at a decent sized reception and I'll be going back and forth from my new home to Chicago a lot.

I  haven't focused or written a new script in almost 3 years.  "No Such Thing" is the very 1st script I wrote "outside the October OWC" in sometime.  I have found new passion for my work... I sent it off to have it professionally critiqued and am using the feedback to strengthen my future work.  I am also entering a few contest this year with 4 of my scripts.

There is no big story here.  There is no hurt ego... Believe me.  And even if there was my ego is so big you'd hardly notice.

So, with that all said, I will be back someday -- That day will be when I feel I can actively participate at my own speed.  Not yours or theirs or his or hers.  Ok, think that covers it.

Take care and carry on..

G'thoughts.

OK, Balt.  Sounds good.  I didn't mean to start a shit storm today, I just wondered if I had missed something, as I didn't see your script anywhere.

Best on your time off and hope to see you back soon!

Knew we could flush you out...;-)

Seriously, it is a bit dramatic, your exit and all.

If you wanted to slip away quietly, why not just do so?

Might want to change your sig, as not to alarm future posters and start this whole tragic exit thing up again.

Take care man.

I don't know if Rendevous knows/remembers me - but I always liked his comments and thought he was very kind...and a good writer by the way - so I miss him. Very funny too and "funny" is always fun!

Baltis was kind too (as I know him)  - not that it's good or bad, just I remember him as being very thoughtful and kind.

So I'll miss both of them.
Anybody knows if Rendevous gone for long?

I also stand up for ren here. A clever, witty and original guy - I agree he's a good writer. Fact is, some people here are way too sensitive and take comments here far too seriously. If you are so sensitive, you have no chance of a career in filmmaking, for sure. We're just a bunch of people on the Internet who are unlikely to meet one another, and therefore cannot make good appraisals of character. Who cares if someone makes a shitty comment? It's so insignificant - don't hold onto the hate. We're all guilty of it, sure but it's so futile. This site may switch from being a fantastic resource for writing into an online squat of anger and geeky testosterone.

Ren isn't the only one out the doors; Sniper, col (maybe not for good), alffy, Craig Cooper and more have left. All good readers, all good writers. We shouldn't hemorrhage talent from the site if we want it to be a screenwriting domain; however, these endless cases of bickering will ensure it continues.

In much wiser words: "Cultivating a close, warmhearted feeling for others is the ultimate source of success in life", or "It is necessary to help others, not only in our prayers, but in our daily lives." Let's not forget what drew us here and what we can contribute to one another's screenwriting growth, maturity and success... even if we think they're an asshole!

Lots of people have left. some have even told me it's because they're tired of the bickering and negativity.

That's honestly why I took such a long break from the site.  For awhile, every-single-day a fight was erupting and - surprise, surprise - no one was writing.

I came back because, well...I love you guys.   :K)
