SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  Hi, my name is Ben...

I'm new here, obviously. I've been thinking about joining this forum for a while and I've read some of the unproduced scripts here over the last few months on and off.

I've done 2 reviews so far (of dubious quality - I kind of wish people did reviews of reviews, aha) and I'm thinking about submitting a short I did a few months ago.

Anyway, I'm a university student in my first year of a course. It's pretty easy so far (and I'm very laize fairre when it comes to study), leaving me plenty of time to write. I'm interested in heaps of genres. When I was younger, I loved horror but I've moved onto more dramas and thrillers or dark comedies.

Anyway, it just felt weird starting to review scripts without introducing myself, so I'm introducing myself. I hope to read plenty of great scripts and maybe write some more.

See you around.

Welcome to Simply Scripts Ben.

You're already off on a great foot.  The more you read the better you write.   Or so I've been told by everyone.  At least twice.  And three times in leap years.

I'm sure some of the reviewers would be happy to critique your reviews.  Send a PM to a reviewer whose reviews you like and ask them.

And I'm sure people didn't find it weird that you just started to review their scripts.  I'm sure in their eyes that's the best introduction of all.

Welcome Ben. I find that the members who introduce themselves, rather than posting work and not actively participating beforehand, are the ones who stick around and make valuable contributions. So I look forward to seeing your work and your reviews on here, and best of luck to you...

Greetings Ben and welcome aboard the good ship SS.
This forum is a fantastic tool to hone the craft of screenwriting.
To harness its power you have to be the olive branch and critique a lot.
I spent weeks reading other people's work before I posted any of my own.
Building up some "good will" while learning is the way to go, IMO.

By the time I posted my first feature, written before I joined the site, I got a lot of reads.
Within nine months, I got a decent grasp of format and wrote two features.
Rewriting the pre-SS one six months after joining the site made a big difference.

Now, I'm pitching my new feature to executives at pitch conventions here in L.A.
I wouldn't have been able to "fast track" my learning curve without SS.

You've got a good attitude already and that's a big plus.
Looking forward to seeing you around the boards!

Regards,
E.D.
