SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /   General Chat  /  Some news...  Regarding Grand Avenue
Posted by: ajr, September 30th, 2011, 1:04pm
Just got clearance from our director's agent to list Grand Avenue on IMDB with the director attached. Hopefully my agent can get it listed with her production company attached as the principal company.

If we get it listed we should get a big bounce from our director's name and also from an individual producer that we're thisclose to bringing on...

Exciting, and nerve-wracking...  ;D

My complete guess, based on something you very obliquely hinted at in a review thread and that given the material it would sort of make sense in a Garden State way is that you've got Joseph Gorden-Levitt onboard to direct and star.

As I say, complete guess though! Awesome to hear you're making progress. :)

Way to set the bar TOO high there, Jonny Boy...  ;D

JGL = instant financing + margaritas by the pool

Ha. This was pricked my ears up, from the Hesher review thread:

Quoted from ajr
This picture got messed up in the distribution chain, E.D. Sad, but it happens sometimes. You would think it would be tough to screw up a picture with JGL and Natalie Portman in it, but when guys with a lot of money fight about a lot of money, well then, there you go...

I've been meaning to see this. Let's just say I'm a JGL "fan" so I'm interested to see the performance he gives. Where did you guys see it - theater, DVD?

Rumbled! RUMBLED!

Seriously, though, interested to see who you actually do have. Hoping for the first SS theatrical release! (think I'm right in saying that?)

Wow, thought I was being subtle with that comment... (0:

Let's just say that if there was ever even a chance of an indie adding JGL - and it's a big if - those chances are gone now with 50/50 and Dark Knight. In other words, that's his Oscar nod and his ticket punched to any big budget dance he wants to attend, off the heels of Inception of course.  And he's already done (500) Days of Summer so there's no need to repeat that...

I find it great to follow all you with production successes or those with potential. Well done you all, I hope to follow.

Just a thought, should there be a separate thread/section for this so that they can be followed? Otherwise they seem to be buried in other mundane items!

Having checked the SS sections(?) finding these successes is not clear yet it should be a key promotion.

Just a thought. Cheers RD

Bill,

Actually, there is a good reason that I don't tout these successes too much.  Or rather, try to emphasize that the script successes are entirely due to the writer's own diligence.

Every month or so, and I am not making this up, I receive an email from someone who has posted a script to SimplyScripts that asks, "My script has been up for over a week.  Why haven't I been contacted by any Directors/Producers."

This usually happens when I post links to Videos of shorts produced from scripts written by SimplyScripts discussion board members.

I work very hard to de-emphasize the very, very insignificant role (if any) of SimplyScripts in a script getting produced.  100% of these works would have been produced regardless of the existance of SimplyScripts.

It is all about setting expectations that the site is about the crafting of the story, more than getting your work actually produced.

Good luck with it, Anthony, though I’m not sure how being listed at IMDb will really help you. You should be able to pitch the director’s attachment whether it’s listed there or not.

Hope it helps you in some way, though.

Thanks Breanne and rest assured we're pitching the director furiously. It will help because it lends legimitacy to the project...

I understand Don 100%, but maybe there could be a "shameless plug" thread? There is one at MP and seems to be working pretty well.

As far as imdb goes...it lost some legitimacy for me when I saw my name there!  ;D

Shameless plugs and all!!  :)

Forget shameless plugs, just promote the stuff you do in the forum.   Part of this business is promoting and you might as well learn how to do it.   It isn't shameless to encourage people to be interested in what you're working on - it's smart.

And yes I am grumpy this morning.  :-)

This site plays a bigger role than you might think, Don.  Some scripts have been produced because they were seen here.

I still like the shameless plug thing. That way you can see all of them even if you miss something posted in their own thread.

Breanne, I do get a lot of requests to produce my scripts. A lot of the time the films are not posted online for me to share though, but that's how it goes.  :)

I just don't like the idea that somehow there is shame associated with promoting your own work - so you have to be absolved in order to do so.  What if we just call it the promote your work here thread or something like that?

Anyway, ajr good work with GA and I'm looking forward to seeing the IMDB page.

I always hope that writers let us know of his/her script is moving forward using either Gen Chat, Getting to know you or the script thread itself.
