Any slight coolness this movie may have once had has been more than ruined by that detestable theme song...

Personally, I think wide re-releases of films is a bullshit cash grab.  None of the fun of a special midnight screening or the interest of a presentation by a prominent crew member; just more proof that Hollywood is even lamer and more product-churning than it was in the 80s.  

Grouchiness aside, I saw Ghostbusters a while ago at a special 35mm screening and it was very cool to see it that way.  Totally different experience.

P.S. 10 bucks says Anthony's humming to himself right now.  When there's somethin' strange...

It was a tough summer indeed on my radio dial.
Everywhere I turned it, there Ray Parker, jr. was.  :-/

However, maximum overdrive nostalgia has taken control.
It's been 27 years since I saw Ghostbusters in a theater. It's about time!

This one's a limited release of only 500 screens.
And it's only one showing on those three Thursdays.
Not an effective cash grab tactic, IMO in this case.

I can't wait to see those gorgeous effects on the big screen again!
To me, I remember them as the ideal blend of camp and cutting edge.

I know I sound like a broken record, saying the same thing over and over again. But I would argue that every wide release (not just re-releases) is a cash grab and always has been since the beginning of film. Films are products of investment. They'd be fools not to grab cash. That's the point of investment. To make more than you put into it. If a film can't do that, then why would they invest?

I have no idea what possessed me to check this thread again, but I now hate all of you...

Wow...between Ghostbusters and The Thing - two 80s films that were *definitely* worth seeing on the big screen.  And I'm willing to bet that they hold up damned well, even today...!  (And that's coming from someone who's only seen one film on the big screen in the past year....)

PS: I *liked* the Ghostbusters theme song....

As someone who grew up without any movie influence in my life what so ever, I have to say that GB was one of only 12 movies I have ever gone to see in a theater.

And I do mean to say...

I have only been to the movies 12 times in my life. I'm almost 50.

I really think that it was a waste of a movie chit for me.

Or maybe I just dont have a frame of reference to base it on.

I really didn't like this movie. I think it's incredibly overrated and really don't understand why it gets so much praise. To each their own I guess, but I just didn't find it very funny... or scary. It was just bland.
