SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Getting to know you, getting to know all about you...  /  Hello!

Hello, all! My name is Sara, and I'm a 24-year-old actress / director / playwright who has written several shorts for the film medium, but I'm finally diving in and working on longer material. Right now, I'm hard at work on a feature - which is very dear to me, as it's a concept I created at 16 that has fleshed out and matured over the past 8 years, and finally feels "ready". Very excited to see this one come to life, and (fingers crossed at getting the producer to REALLY bite!) I'm going to be directing as that and acting have been more my forte in the film medium. I've been produced several times (minor fringe festivals, but with stellar reviews!) as a playwright, but tend to approach ideas more visually and feel that translates MUCH better to the screen...we'll see how it goes.

I have come across this particular forum tons of times, and really love reading scripts of unproduced material, seeing what works and what doesn't - what other screenwriters have said about it. It's super educational, and seems to be a really cool community! So, I finally joined. I'll be perusing and offering feedback on shtuffs on here, and when I have a bit more revision and such done on my script / actually write my treatment (yes, I write treatments and such last - weird!) see if you knowledgeable folk have any feedback that could help me even more.

So, yes. I just thought I'd do a basic introduction to let you guys know who I am, but I'm looking back and it looks a lot like a query letter or some such. Yikes.

Some things about me on a lighter note: I can't tell Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson apart; I cry every time I watch Monster's Inc.; And, most importantly, I am the worst high-fiver in the history of the high-five.

Nice to meet you Sara. I have no idea who Ralph Fiennes is, so I'm much worse off than you. Maybe I just always assumed it was Neeson.

Good luck, and I'll try to check out your work when you post it.

Well my name is Baltis and I cry with the lights on or off... Glenn Beck may turn the faucets on, but when I cry it's all about the geysers.  I also enjoy long walks on gravel roads or.muddy river banks and never eat pudding in a cup.  If it comes in a cup I scrape it out and eat it off the counter top.  Some say i'm hardcore... I just says I'm true to myself.  My roots, yo.

Anyways, don't listen to me... Listen to the regulars here.  They will be of great benifit down the road.

P.s. I don't really cry... I pout.

Welcome aboard, Sarah.  I usually have no problems with 24 year old girls...even when I was 24, but that was...oh shit...that was 24 years ago.  Maybe it's the old rule of 24's.  I don't know anymore.

Good to see you jumping in, reading and offering feedback on the OWC.  Very cool.

Looking forward to seeing your own writing.  Enjoy the site...it's a cool place...but whatch out for those damn Aussies!!!!  I hear they've actually got killer roos down there.

Greetings Sarah,

Welcome to the chaos that is the SS forum.
It's a stellar resource for those with initiative and fortitude.
Quid pro quo and a thick skin go a long way here.
A conflagration of insecurity and ego awaits the bold who tread here.
However, the lessons to be gleaned to hone your craft are immense.

I started here reading scripts by *CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS for several weeks.
I waited before posting my own stuff until I earned some credibility as a reader.
It was a great spring board into receiving feedback on my fledgling efforts.

Enjoy!

Regards,
E.D.

* contributing members read and post constructive criticism on a regular basis

Hello Sara,

I don't know whether you entered the OWC but can I just say it was good to see the effort you put  into reading and reviewing those scripts. I read many of your reviews and thought them well considered.

Hope you stick around.

All the best
